Disney Infinity Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Ostensibly toys are brightly coloured pieces of plastic – that’s true of the three bundled with Disney Infinity – but I’ve always regarded them as something more. They’re catalysts of imagination, letting children picture new worlds with the help of an initial spark. At its very best, Disney Infinity fuels that process but introduces the added fun of video game tropes and genres into the mix. In fact, it’s an excellent primer for kids embarking on a life playing games – it’ll teach them everything they need to know about barrel-rolling in a third-person shooter, power-sliding around corners, o...

It’s easy to label Disney Infinity as little more than Skylanders with Disney-Pixar characters. But while the way it gets players using toy figures to influence the on-screen fun owes much to Activision’s mega-hit, Disney is seeking to take Skylanders‘ fusion of figurines and games to new heights with a level-creation tool that brings Minecraft and LittleBigPlanet to mind. But will it be fun for all the family?
Who doesn’t love to create a world where they are in charge? I know for one that I don’t mind it, nor do many of the children out there who love to create with their imagination, my own kids included. Now take this and add the world of Disney to it and you have Disney Interactive’s newest game, Disney Infinity. One part adventure, one part world creator, one part figure collector, this game has a lot going for it. We previewed the game back in June of this year and we’ve finally had the chance to play the full retail version on the Xbox 360. It arrived at my home office a bit later than e...
I can see the potential with Disney Infinity both within its future playset opportunities and the Toy Box, but it’s not quite at a “must buy” status just yet. By the same token, I had a ton of fun playing the game, especially with a local co-op partner on-hand. So long as you’re willing to put up with some rather elementary action gameplay, Disney Infinity is a solid choice for families, younger gamers, and gamers who are young at heart alike.
The game borrows more than a few ideas from Skylanders, but it executes on those ideas in some pretty smart ways, leveraging Disney's properties to their utmost potential. There may be better singular Disney games out there, but as a blend of multiple properties, this is the quintessential Disney experience.
Activision’s Skylanders has set up the idea of toys into games and for since they launched Spyro’s Adventure in 2011 Skylanders has pionerred the idea and has provoked further interest in the expansion of the ideas into new territories. To be honest though while Skylanders has been interesting in developing the idea, the games really needed a rival to compete with to keep fans of the idea amused and Disney has accepted that responsibility with its attempt at toys into games simply titled Disney Infinity. For everything I thought the games were lacking Disney Infinity makes up for with its shar...
It’s not a game for the financially weary yet, unlike so many titles aimed at kids, gives them something they can come back to again and again. In this respect Disney Infinity could be described as more of an investment; with Playsets and additional character being cheaper than movie tie-ins and other action games, in the long run it could be a cost effective solution with an additional second wave of content already planned for the coming months.
