Despite a story premise that sounds a bit familiar and derivative, Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights proves to be a Metroidvania that is able to stand proudly on its own feet.

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, from here on referred to as simply Ender Lilies (because that is quite the mouthful), first caught my attention with its dark gothic theme. The juxtaposition between the dark blight-ridden areas and the radiant white unassuming stature of this little priestess girl is visually grabbing. On top of that, the combat itself looked unique with how you use liberated souls to do the combat for you. Anyway, before I talk about the whole game in the opening paragr...

While Ender Lilies may have taken inspiration from a range of titles, intentionally or otherwise, that in no way detracts from the game. The developers’ creation holds its own and is a title worthy of praise in its own right. Sure, it would be nice to have some dazzling new gameplay elements, but it’s not necessary if those that are utilized come together to form an agreeable and cohesive whole. And Ender Lilies accomplishes just that; it’s got the graphics, the music, the charismatic protagonist, upgrades to obtain, abilities to unlock, and varied environments that keep exploration compelling. Though Ender...

All told, Ender Lilies is above and beyond worth the purchase. If you want to juggle and fight or explore the teeny tiniest corners of the most dangerous and dimmest rooms on the furthest edges of the stacked 2D map of a ghastly little world, this is it. Also, the music is totally sick. I want the soundtrack and I never want the soundtrack.

In my time with ENDER LILIES, I did not run into any bugs and I found the game to be very competent. Levels do a great job of leading the player where to go next, and the map is not a detailed nuisance but only shows exits available in each room. It is with these thoughts that have me recommend this game to first-time Metroidvania players or anyone looking for a platformer fix. With a solid combat system, pretty visuals, and good level design makes ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights a game I can suggest to just about anyone....

Ender Lilies is easily one of my most pleasant surprises this year. The game has fantastic visuals, challenging and satisfying gameplay, and an amazing soundtrack. If you're a fan of Metroidvania games, I implore you to give this game a shot as you’ll no doubt be left feeling as satisfied as I am.

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a very atmospheric game, full of feelings and emotions. It is beautifully terrifying and terribly beautiful, allowing players to admire the destroyed cathedral and crumbling statues, a decayed village, a flooded temple of magic and other charmingly gloomy locations.

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights has been described as a “Soulslike” game, a Metroidvania game, and an action platformer heavy on atmosphere and light on complex combat. Those things are all sort of true, but they fail to capture the essence of what makes Ender Lilies memorable. Coupled with its melancholic art style, poignant music, and dark, foreboding aesthetic, Ender Lilies’ combat is unique in the genre but might also be the weakest link in an otherwise exceptional experience.

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights ticks all the boxes of a respectable Metroidvania. It delivers a colossal labyrinth that’s fun to explore, and you find cool new abilities to open inaccessible areas all while leveling up and enhancing your character with powers and equipment. I’m a sucker for the genre, so that bare minimum is usually enough to get me on board no matter how many games enter the space. But as I traversed Ender Lilies’ beautifully realized gothic kingdom, I found its challenging yet entertaining combat and myriad secrets helped set it a cut above several of its...

The world is black and full of cascading raindrops that fall fatly into translucent pools around you. You awaken as Lily, the protagonist of ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights, in a deserted church on a funeral pyre. As you rise you won’t be able to make Lily awaken very fast, the game halts you to experience a slowness in Lily’s rise, emphasising the possibility that she has been at rest for a long time. What wakes you from your slumber is a voice, presented via text (Ender Lillies doe...

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights‘ combat could still do with some work, not least because the animation is so gorgeous that limiting your physical attacks deprives the game of an extra dose of visual finesse. But this is still a magical outing that will have you hooked until the Blight is nothing but a bad memory.

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights does have a few issues. Overall, though, it more than delivers thanks to vibrant visuals, top-notch Metroidvania platforming, and challenging Souls-like combat.

Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights starts out promisingly, with a massive map, compelling exploration, and solid combat. Unfortunately, it collapses into frustrating, overly difficult repetition by the end.
