Enotria is a masterclass in intricate level design. Exploring the dense Italian world is a joy thanks to the unique locales and brilliant dense layouts. The Soulslike inspiration is obvious here, from the bonfire system to the combat, but Enotria differentiates itself enough with its Mask class system. This is a decent Soulslike if you can withstand the bugs and slow combat.

Enotria: The Last Song is a little rough around the edges, but still nicely playable in spite of this. The standard-level difficulty feels hard-but-fair, providing a good challenge once you get the various systems sorted out while filled with a strong variety of enemies and bosses with plenty of attacks to learn. Enotria: The Last Song is a faithful recreation of the original Souls games with a fresh new coat of Italian paint, and it brings with it enough personality and mechanics to stand on its own two feet. Unfortunately, the experience is held back by performance issues, bugs, and a lack of enemy variety for difficulty.

Enotria: The Last Song won't steal your love away from stronger Souls-like titles and certainly not from FromSoftware games. But it will turn your head to its bizarre theater. There's no guarantee you will enjoy its act, of course.

Thanks to its unusual source material and sunny setting, Enotria: The Last Song looks like a fresh take on a genre so often set deep in gothic nights. Unfortunately, beneath the mask, there's little that sets it apart from other, better games.
