Enotria: mythical land of Italian renaissance, home of beautiful cities and marble palaces filled with challenging foes. You'll love it, they said. They were right.

Enotria: The Last Song’s stacks of gameplay systems and offbeat terminology make for a fairly convoluted soulslike experience. However, it brings some cool ideas to the table when it comes to combat and traversal. That, and it’s a simply gorgeous world set against a backdrop of Italian folklore, makes for an incredibly compelling experience. The relatively short length compared to most soulslikes also makes it a digestible game that's worth playing at least once.

Enotria: The Last Song is touted as a sun-lit Soulslike inspired by Italian folklore. Fans of the subgenre will find plenty to like, even if this song doesn't exactly nail the high notes.

Enotria: The Last Song brings a fresh twist to the soulslike genre, immersing players in a world steeped in Italian folklore. With its unique mask-swapping mechanic and the mystical power of Ardore, this game offers a compelling experience that both entices and challenges players. As you traverse the vibrant landscapes of Enotria, you’ll find yourself caught between the allure of its rich cultural tapestry and the demanding combat that lies at its core.

Enotria: The Last Song definitely veers away from the typical gloomy Gothic look of the typical Soulsborne, but doesn't commit to the bit completely. Iffy combat, unhelpful menus, and lousy balancing make for a miserable experience. If you're trying to find the worst example of the genre, this one's a contender.

Enotria: The Last Song is a little rough around the edges, but still nicely playable in spite of this. The standard-level difficulty feels hard-but-fair, providing a good challenge once you get the various systems sorted out while filled with a strong variety of enemies and bosses with plenty of attacks to learn. The parry move isn't all that generous with the timing, but highly effective once you get the hang of it, and feels great when you successfully fend off a multi-hit strike. Customizing a character gives a lot of room for experimentation, and while the best method is to pick a class and build towards it, there's still plenty of leeway in how that class can play thanks to the large number of weapons with different handling and elemental affinities. Most strikingly, while Enotria is hard it's not dark, with the different qualities of sunlight feeling like a stronger theme even than the aspect of the world being a play that runs through the story. Enotria: The Last Song is a solid soulslike with a unique, appealing identity, which is plenty to paper over the rough spots on the quest to free the world from a script nobody asked for.

Enotria: The Last Song is a beautifully Italian-inspired Souls-like that perfectly captures the theme of "Summer Souls," offering punishing combat and an intricate story, all set in a stunning world. While the game suffers from a few glaring flaws, it shows strong potential to become a recognized entry in the Souls-like genre.

Enotria is a masterclass in intricate level design. Exploring the dense Italian world is a joy thanks to the unique locales and brilliant dense layouts. The Soulslike inspiration is obvious here, from the bonfire system to the combat, but Enotria differentiates itself enough with its Mask class system. This is a decent Soulslike if you can withstand the bugs and slow combat.

Thanks to its unusual source material and sunny setting, Enotria: The Last Song looks like a fresh take on a genre so often set deep in gothic nights. Unfortunately, beneath the mask, there's little that sets it apart from other, better games.

Enotria: The Last Song is a beautiful, if imperfect, soulslike developed by Jyamma Games. Set in a fantasy world inspired by Italian folklore, it brings a beautiful art direction and some interesting unique gameplay features to an otherwise rather familiar formula. While not all of these features work as well as intended, the game definitely has enough working in its favour to be worth the attention of soulslike aficionados.

A sunny soulslike based on Italian folklore that struggles with clunky combat and lacklustre mechanics.

Enotria: The Last Song is a visually stunning souls-like based on Italian folklore. While the game has a lot of customization, certain areas lack the polish that keeps it from being the best, but if you are a fan of souls-likes you may enjoy it.

Soulslikes are like pasta. Pasta comes in many forms and can be dressed up in a lot of different ways. In the end, though, the delicious dish in front of you is sauce, noodles, and whatever else was added to make it stand out. Enotria: The Last Song is a new Soulslike, and you can almost smell the garlic-infused tomato sauce cooking in the Italian countryside where some of the game takes place. That Mediterranean setting is important and one of the ways in which Enotria plays its particular tune.

Enotria: The Last Song won't steal your love away from stronger Souls-like titles and certainly not from FromSoftware games. But it will turn your head to its bizarre theater. There's no guarantee you will enjoy its act, of course.

There is a lot of beauty in Enotria: The Last Song and Jyamma Games deserves to be commended for its efforts to stand out in a saturated market. With immersive connections to Italian folklore and an adoring love of subgenre, Soulslike fans will certainly enjoy the world of challenge. But while the combat is innovative it could use some polish.

Enotria: The Last Song is a faithful recreation of the original Souls games with a fresh new coat of Italian paint, and it brings with it enough personality and mechanics to stand on its own two feet. Unfortunately, the experience is held back by performance issues, bugs, and a lack of enemy variety for difficulty.

Also, if you ever interact with the ‘main’ NPC that accompanies you on your journey make sure to stare at the screen each time.  There was one point where he told me how to get to the 2nd main area and I didn’t realize that the game was showing images of where to go and I was not recording.  I spent an hour trying to figure it out before reaching out to PR for the answer (hint, sunflower field but go right). Bug-wise I had no crashes, though I had a lot of issues with the terrain and either getting stuck in it briefly or randomly falling to my death during platforming.

While there are a few not-so-good things about Enotria: The Last Song, I can conclude my review that this is still a fun game that deserves attention. The world setting, combat, boss designs, and how the overall narrative folds feel fresh when it comes to playing another game that is based on a soulslike formula.

Enotria: The Last Song is a Souls-like experience that takes a lot of big swings, and while there are a few hiccups along the way, a lot of these risks pay off. The freedom to experiment with builds, plan ahead with pre-set Loadouts, and take on the roles of your fallen enemies are all standout features that set this title apart. Which Enotria backs up with impressive visuals, a compelling Italian folklore-inspired world, and several memorable bosses. Sadly, performance issues, a lack of genuine, consistent challenge, and some systems that flatter to deceive stop this game from being a truly iconic game within the sub-genre, but when the curtain closes, and the actors take their final bow, I feel plenty in the audience will be throwing roses and applauding regardless.
