F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow is a very competent, very good-looking foray into the Metroidvania genre with solid platforming and exciting, demanding arcade combat. Torch City is a wonderfully-grim place to get lost in and it's rendered gorgeously, despite some awkward signposting at times. Most of all, it nails the sense of exploration and steady progress that's a hallmark of the genre and it does all of that with a kick-arse rabbit in a mech suit for a protagonist. If this is the level of quality that studios backed by the China Hero Project are going to deliver then the program...

An engaging 2.5D platforming adventure with rich visuals and furry creatures, F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch has all of the right ingredients you'd expect from any good metroidvania, as well as a few tricks of its own. It's certainly one of the most enjoyable games featuring a rabbit with a huge metal fist I've ever played.

I had a few bugs in my Epic Games Store version of the title, as I was, unfortunately, unable to find a contact for the game’s publisher in time for the launch into Game Pass.  They were all graphical, with some odd textures on enemies and a few times where a door showed it was closed but in reality, it was open.  I will try to check out the Xbox port post-launch and update this section if possible.

F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch is a very beautiful Metroidvania with some backtracking that won’t interfere with your exploration of the game’s story. The plot is able to easily grab and hold players’ attention without being boring. The game also features some interesting decisions when it comes to classic Metroidvania mechanics.

When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.

The odd gameplay issue aside, F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch is one of the most enjoyable Metroidvanias you can play right now. While you probably won’t care about its story, it’s easy to fall in love with the game’s detailed world and somewhat cute characters. It’s the thrilling combat and raft of collectibles and upgrades to find that will have you going back to it time and time again, however, keen to make Rayton the powerful hero he’s destined to be.

I know some of you out there, including some of my WTMG colleagues, have been waiting for F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch for a while, but I had never heard of it until about a week or so ago. With that being said, the moment I saw its trailer and some of its gameplay footage, I was immediately sold. I was craving a brand new metroidvania that would take advantage of the power of the PlayStation 5, and that edgy dieselpunk furry insanity looked to be exactly what wanted. Now that I’ve play...

F.I.S.T. offers a rock-solid Metroidvania experience that I enjoyed greatly. Chunky combat, glorious level design and well-hidden secrets are what gets me out of bed in the morning, and F.I.S.T provided all of that and terrifying talking bears too. Unfortunately, I can’t overlook the technical issues that plague proceedings. If TiGames sort out the problems with a rapid patch then this would be a game that's much easier to recommend.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is a deftly crafted Metroidvania that while it doesn't do anything especially new or ground-breaking, nonetheless reframes the genre through a distinctly Chinese and attractive dieselpunk setting that fans of the genre and action adventures in general will assuredly enjoy.

Standing out among the Metroidvania crowd is tough, but with satisfying combat, great platforming and a cleverly designed and well thought out world, F.I.S.T. more than manages to stand on its own lucky feet.

F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch is a fursona, diesel-punk, Metroidvania game that, despite its rather unorthodox approach to the genre, is a strong example of classic design and modern storytelling. You take on the role of a rabbit with a huge robotic fist strapped to your back, your primary weapon against the Iron Dogs, an Orwellian organization that controls the grease-stained city you live in.
