Knights and Bikes Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Knights and Bikes excels in its uniqueness. The hand-drawn characters are adorable and detailed. Demelza and Nessa’s dialogue is sweet and funny. The world and story that the folks over at Foam Swords have created is equal parts exciting and inherently sad. The narrative covers difficult topics in a whimsical way that will have players at times on the verge of tears and laughing out loud only moments later. Whether you play alone or with a friend, Knights and Bikes is a sensational adventure game. Everything from its characters and its narrative to its art style and sound design is an absolute...

From stem to stern, Knights and Bikes is a delight to behold and a testament to the creative power of the talent at Foam Sword. Demelza and Nessa’s story is a compelling one that hits all the right emotional and comical beats, while the laid-back gameplay proves to be varied and interesting as the narrative continues. All of this is tied together by some stellar presentation to make for a couch co-op experience that you won't want to miss out on. We’d give Knights and Bikes a strong recommendation whatever way you choose to play it, though bear in mind that you’ll be getting the best and most ...

Every close knit group of childhood friends inevitably spawn their very own local legend. These stories are birthed not only by a child’s unique perspective of the world, but probably a bit too much sugar in their diet as well. For this reviewer, it was an ominous looking house that could just be seen over the treeline on my walk to school. We were convinced the house was haunted, and devoted a significant amount of time one summer to planning how we could get close enough to see the apparitions within. We would have done it, too, but there was a busy road in the way and we were forbidden from...

One of the best story-based games of the year, that manages to capture the joys and pains of childhood (and riding bikes) in a very relatable and compelling way.

Knights and Bikes is an action-adventure that tells the tale of two kids in 80’s england. The search for a legendary treasure brings them together to craft heartwarming coming of age story. Although it’s best played in co-op mode, there’s a fair amount of fun to be had in playing alone too. Throw in the fact that Knights and Bikes features clearly defined mechanics along with some powerful instances and you’ve got yourself quite the charming indie experience.

Being a kid, riding your bike with your friends — no school, no parents, just freedom and fun in the sun. Who wouldn’t be instantly attracted to the quaint, simple premise of Knights and Bikes, from developer Foam Sword? It’s a co-op adventure, with two protagonists setting off on their bikes to find treasure, solve a mystery and along the way learn about friendship, family, and life. The kid in all of us, no matter what our age, can relate.

As I mentioned above, the game isn't hard. You don't need twitch reflexes or a firm grasp on how to use an analog stick. It feels a lot like a Lego game in that regard. All you need to enjoy Knights and Bikes is a sense of adventure and a willing friend. If like me, you're constantly looking for something to play with a loved one who only has a passing interest in video games, this game is definitely one I'd recommend.

Remember what it was like to be a kid? We all had a childhood and we all had pretend adventures, usually with friends. Such is the case in Knights and Bikes, which follows two young girls as they have what starts as a pretend adventure of their own. This top-down co-op adventure game has unique art and a lot of heart. But is that enough to make it worth actually playing?

Knights And Bikes is a solid experience for those who are young or young at heart. The characterization and art are top-notch. While the puzzling is rather thin, the combat is hectic and exciting. Overall, Knights And Bikes focuses on its charming cast and telling a story for the whole family.

Light on action but humorous and made with love, Knights and Bikes holds something for adults and kids alike.

Apart from the merely functional combat, my only real criticism is that I had some difficulty figuring out what I was supposed to do in later sections. I resorted to a guide a couple of times, even with the help of an AI companion that would often step up and solve puzzles for me. That's because those puzzles often need you to do two things at once, which is challenging for the solo-player who has to press a button to swap character. Playing by yourself is certainly a diminished experience, especially given the impromptu competitions Demelza is fond of inciting, but it's still one I'd thorough...
