La Quimera is a new story-driven, linear FPS from Reburn, the studio formerly known as 4A Games Ukraine. While 4A Games was initially founded and entirely located in Ukraine, as Reburn chief executive officer Dmytro Lymar explained to Wccftech previously, when the Russian Federation invaded Ukraine in 2014, the studio split between a Ukraine-based team and another based in Malta.

La Quimera feels like an ambitious game that was let down by time constraints during development. While there are bones of a good game in there, the general lack of quality in most of its aspects make it difficult to recommend.

La Quimera would have benefitted from a few more months in the oven to smooth out some of the issues I found during my playthrough, but it also has a solid technical base that it could build on. The weapons, setting and world are outstanding, and while the combat feels like a chore in a lot of levels, it's nothing that a balancing pass cannot fix in future updates. Reburn has now shifted plans to release La Quimera into Early Access when it does finally arrive — at a date which is, coincidentally, still TBA. But even in Early Access, the amount of content on offer in La Quimera's current state just isn't enough, with the game feeling like it ends just as soon as it began. Throw in a lackluster story that borrows liberally from other, better games in the FPS genre (namely, Crysis), grating voice acting, and su...

La Quimera is like the FPS version of a direct-to-video movie, with dialogue that is both poorly written and badly acted, middling combat, and an unfinished campaign – though there is a little bit of charm to be found when playing with friends in co-op.

The most disappointing part of La Quimera is how it struggles to bring its good ideas together, leaving them buried in lesser ideas and poor execution. In the end, those interesting ideas are buried in a lack of content and poor execution that makes it all unfun to engage with on any level.
