Lake: Season's Greetings Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Season's Greetings DLC views Lake's world through very different eyes, offering reassuring familiarity while shaking things up just enough to make them fresh again. Retaining the same slow, puzzle-free style and relatable characters, it's not for everyone but will surely feel like the perfect gift for fans of the original game.
If you enjoyed Lake, then you'll love the festive DLC, Season's Greetings. This prequel set at Christmas has you playing as Meredith's father, Thomas Weiss, and brings 5 new characters to meet, whilst bringing more relaxing gameplay and engaging story.
I haven’t played anything as delightfully Christmassy as Lake: Season’s Greetings, and for that it’s an absolute success. It’s just a shame that the stories around Providence Oaks haven’t been quite as compelling as those in the main game, making it more of a slog to get through. Still, I’m glad to have seen Providence Oaks covered in snow: simply beautiful.
Season's Greetings' monotonous delivery-sim structure, inconsequential narrative, & rough technical audio errors are the chief reasons why anyone's enthusiasm would be frostbitten by the end.Not too far into this expansion, we hear the US postal service's motto recited before getting to work:
Overall, Season's Greetings is just what you need to put you in a holiday mood even though the Weiss' holidays don’t exactly go as planned, but I feel like that's a very realistic point of view. Depending on your choices, you can even learn from Thomas' positivity and find the fun in what would otherwise ruin your festivities. I gotta say, I think I might've enjoyed this DLC more than the main game, be it for the atmosphere or the new characters bringing their unique charms to an already colourful cast of characters, but if you like me enjoy a good wholesome and cozy game, then I can tell you ...
