LEGO Builder's Journey Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

LEGO Builder's Journey is a spectacular, absolutely gorgeous puzzle-platformer, with a surprisingly touching story the explores parenthood and creativity in a delightfully minimalist way. Stunning aesthetics enhanced by ray-tracing and DLSS combine with a soundtrack that amounts to one of the most beautiful games in recent memory. A little more commitment to the possibilities afforded by interlocking bricks would have completed the picture, but regardless is remains a game not to be missed by fans of LEGO, puzzles and a good, wholesome narrative.

LEGO Builder’s Journey is a very relaxing puzzler with some cool concepts and ideas. The game is incredibly serene, as its peaceful tunes and minimalist design are quite relaxing. The integration of ray tracing and Nvidia DLSS make for a visually stunning game. LEGO Builder’s Journey is refreshingly original take on the LEGO series, and represents a direction that I hope to see the franchise head in the future.

We’re so used to the Lego game formula to the point we occasionally think there’s nothing else that can be done with the license besides tying it to another famous franchise and create a funny collectathon for it be centered around. Don’t get me wrong, I love these Lego games just like any other person out there, but I also grew up playing with real life Lego bricks, having a ton of fun creating landscapes and environments with whatever spare pieces I had nearby. There is a lot you can ...

I played through the game with my son, and for the parents out there reading this, it’s definitely suitable, and you can quite happily let your child just poke around with the tools on offer here. The game sadly doesn’t really cater for a full “build what you want” sandbox, instead offering something far more curated, but there are plenty of pleasing moments throughout. At only around 2 hours long, there’s little replay value here, but thankfully the asking price is fairly reasonable.

As a LEGO fan, I appreciate LEGO Builder’s Journey for trying something different. You don’t need to be a fan of LEGO to enjoy it though; it’s a rewarding puzzler in its own right, with just a few frustrations marring its admittedly short running time. Its challenging puzzles and fiddly controls make it something more suited to older players, but those of all ages will find delight in its colourful and downright charming visuals. If nothing else, it makes me keen to see what Light Brick Studio develops in the future. Like being presented with a bag of actual LEGO bricks, there are many opportu...
