Life is Strange: Double Exposure is a perfectly enjoyable narrative adventure, but one which we’d strongly suggest you play elsewhere unless Switch is your only means. Timeline-hopping antics, a compelling murder mystery, and a cosy atmosphere all work strongly in this one’s favour, but the Switch’s hardware limitations lead to an experience that feels notably blunted due to the various visual cuts that had to be made to fit this one on the humble handheld. The story itself is a fine adventure that fans (especially of the first entry) may find worthwhile, but the value proposition on Switch makes it harder to justify that $50 price tag. We wouldn’t say to outright avoid the Switch version, but we’d suggest you wait for a deep sale before diving in.

The third episode of Life is Strange 2 doesn't really nail its emotional beats but sets up for what's bound to be an exciting next episode.

Though the threat of the tornado constantly looms like a force of nature (obviously), it pales in comparison to the storm of tragedy that grows around Max and her friend Chloe as dangerous secrets are revealed. In fact by being drawn back into Chloes’ life, Max opens the door to a world many don’t understand, even more people choose to ignore and some people have the misfortune to fall into.

The game doesn’t quite live up to other similar games in the genre, but it’s worth the time and energy to check out if you’re a fan of these type of games.

The music and washed aesthetic look also create a convincing setting, layering with the narrative in an effective manner. In the environment, there are several supernatural cues in the world of Arcadia Bay that made me do a double take, at times blurring the lines between the real and surreal. The harrowing image of birds smacking glass windows, or the sheer amount of eco-disaster left me with an eerie, haunting feeling. At times, the naturalist take of the idyllic days of yesteryear reinforce the teenage nostalgia but as the story develops, Life is Strange skillfully ventures into the creepier happenings of the world.

While the game gives the player numerous choices to make, its biggest detriment is that it ends up pushing all of them aside for its conclusion. That having been said, the story in Life is Strange is still one that everyone should make time to experience.

Even the characters, who I've grown to become greatly attached to, got the character moments they deserved, for the most part. But the ending doesn't strike a sour note because of what happens to the characters. I'm fine with the endings for Max, Chloe, and everyone else. It disappoints because of the path the game took in getting there. The ultimate result is a letdown and it leaves a sense that Life is Strange could have been such a more memorable experience than it was.

But I found Life Is Strange affecting in a way I rarely experience with video games. I shared it with friends. We messaged each other at the ends of episodes to say "Holy shit!" before grabbing a cup of tea and talking through the chapter. It was a wonderful thing.

Life Is Strange is an impressive mixture of great writing, great voice acting, and interactive storytelling that'll pull on your heart strings like it's going out of style.

I’m sort of embarrassed to say that I really like this game, but I tore through it in one sitting and felt better off for having done so; I feel like I need to load up an FPS and run around with the biggest gun I can find for a few hours to make up for it. The reality is, Life is Strange is a really charming enjoyable experience with a great deal of character depth and an intriguing, if not entirely original, story. It’s not without its flaws, like I said, the girls seem to act and look y...

Life is Strange Episode 1: Chrysalis is an engaging and enjoyable first instalment in what promises to be a compelling adventure series. If subsequent episodes can live up to what Dontnod has started, we're in for a treat.
