At times enjoyable, LocoCycle is still a very by the numbers XBLA title.

LocoCycle is a crazy fun game. If you don’t like cheezy, then don’t bother. But if you like fun sayings with some fighting and driving action, this game is for you!

The promise of next gen consoles includes larger, more well realized worlds, realistic AI, and eye-popping presentation. LocoCycle includes none of those things, and would fit better in an early ‘90s arcade than a 2013 console powerhouse.

Additionally, it should be noted that the game's visuals resemble that of a previous-gen game, and the load times are surprisingly long for a downloadable title running on new hardware. There may be a good idea buried somewhere within LocoCycle, but what Twisted Pixel delivered disappoints on practically ever level.

Without the dull, ill-considered cutscenes and deeply problematic content, LocoCycle would be a shallow, light distraction. With well-worn mechanics that mostly work (save for some sloppy melee and rail shooting) it’s a competent genre mash-up. But the story and writing are abysmal, with cutscenes full of racist, unfunny crap. Twisted Pixel can do so much better than this.

If nothing else, LocoCycle earns its name. It’s got not one, but two sentient motorcycles, and buckets full of loco. I imagine I’ll have forgotten what LocoCycle played like long before I forget its unapologetically zany live-action bits, and its questionable treatment of Pablo. Its inconsistent gameplay becomes tedious despite its imaginative variety, and its levels lack cohesion or a sense of momentum. Like the cheesy 90's films it apes, LocoCycle is memorable, but not quite good.

LocoCycle is funny. It's humorous in the most off-the-wall way imaginable, with tongue-in-cheek live-action cut-scenes that succeed in raising chuckles, and a core conceit that's utterly ludicrous. Twisted Pixel's latest is knowingly silly though, and deliriously enjoyable as a result. It's Road Rash on acid, but is also so much more than that glib summation suggests. LocoCycle is funny, but it's also batshit crazy.
