In conclusion, Lost Words: Beyond the Page is a vastly different example of an adventure platformer.  It can be played on both a superficial or a deeper meaning level and has a design aesthetic to marvel at.  Although not the most complicated or difficult game to complete it will stay in my memory for longer than many other games.  It seems to me that this project fully deserved the shout out from Mr Spencer.

A short 2D platforming game with very unique gameplay. It’s an incredibly artistic game with a great soundtrack and voice acting to compliment a story that adults can really relate to. If you are an emotional person, like me, be prepared for tears.

Rhianna Pratchett is no stranger to creating engaging video game narratives. Some of you may have enjoyed her work without even knowing it. She co-wrote Heavenly Sword, worked on Mirror’s Edge, and was lead writer on Crystal Dynamic’s new Tomb Raider titles. After years of working on games targeted toward an older audience, Lost Words: Beyond the Page is aimed at putting the power of words into the hands of younger players, but everyone is welcome in this world.

Playing through the thoughts and emotions that Izzy's feeling during a difficult time in her life is confronting and heartfelt in equal measure, making it all the more disappointing that Lost Words' core mechanic lets it down so much.

What looks like an average platformer is in fact one of the most emotional games of recent years. The story of young Izzy will touch your soul, no matter if you’re 14 or 44. The only thing missing is the game's average delivery of pure platformer.

When I first saw Lost Words: Beyond the Page, I expected it to be a cute, charming story. It definitely has charm, as well as its share of lighthearted moments, and everything from its art to its voice acting is presented beautifully. However, it’s also a story about pain, grief, and treasuring the people we love.

At times you can connect with a video game on a deeply profound and personal level. Not only does it achieve its primary purpose of entertaining the player, but it can also help to explore suppressed emotions, enlightening as well. Lost Words: Beyond the Page is an emotionally charged puzzle platformer that tackles life’s harsh reality in a touching and innovative manner.

While Lost Words portrays the experience of loss from a younger perspective with a stunningly talented voice actress, but in the end, what's left is the story of a girl traveling through the five stages of grief. Though Lost Words: Beyond the Page attempts to reach beyond that is still a touching story, most of the depth in this gorgeous indie game is blocked by rudimentary symbols and adolescent cliches.

Uneven, yet unique and compelling, Lost Words has some truly effective narrative and design elements. It's let down a bit by overreliance on the protagonist's less-than-interesting literary attempts, but it's a worth playing for fans of narrative games.

It’s everything about the story and the presentation of it that made this game so worthwhile to play. I could just feel the weight of the emotions presented here, carried through its intriguing writing style, excellent voice acting, and melancholic soundtrack.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page is a breathtaking, moving side-scroller narrative adventure that masterfully tugs at your heartstrings thanks to a moving musical score, a beautifully written story, and gorgeous graphics. Each piece comes together to create something truly magical that is sure to stay with you well after you've finished the game. Lost Words: Beyond the Page is a beautiful game, with a touching and meaningful plot, engaging gameplay and gorgeous visuals. A few technical glitches cannot stop this brilliant game.

Perhaps I was just extra-emotional while playing, but few games have had the impact on me that Lost Words: Beyond The Page has. It’s one that will stay with me for some time. Not only is it beautifully designed in terms of both audio and visuals, its very human story will touch your soul. And if you’re still lucky enough to have grandparents with you, it’ll remind you never to take them for granted again. Really, pick up the phone and tell your grandma what she means to you.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page tells a tender, emotional tale, but you’ll find yourself wading through the fantastical and mechanical elements of its secondary one in order to reach its conclusion.
