Luigi's Mansion 2 HD

A few minor missteps don't manage to detract from what is one of the best games on the system.

It's the green brother's time to shine in Luigi's Mansion 2 HD - and shine he does. This whimsical ghost-hunting adventure is a great deal of fun, and it looks better than ever thanks to this remaster. Even though taking ghosts down can sometimes be a pain, it's a small price to pay for the joy of exploring the game's wonderfully-designed environments.

Luigi's sophomore solo adventure is still an absolute blast, and even though this is a fairly conservative remaster, it makes for a welcome return to the haunts of Evershade Valley.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a great Switch re-release, making it a must-play for newcomers of the series as well as a nostalgic adventure for returning fans of the 2013 game. While the title doesn’t bring in any new features to add to the mix, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD shines with its updated look and design which matches authentically with the roster of current Nintendo Switch titles. If you can look past the few kinks in the road, you're in for an all-out spooky good time with Luigi. Just make sure to look behind you from time to time.

The magical Dark Moon that hangs over Evershade Valley seems to calm the ghosts that live there. But when it suddenly breaks apart, the once-friendly ghosts become unruly! Luigi must stumble into action and find his courage to restore the Dark Moon to its rightful place in the sky.

Overall, I really enjoyed Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. The polished graphics are impressive and the gameplay is engaging. The game is infused with the classic Mario Bros. humor we all know and love, the story is fun, and our protagonist is a loveable goofball. The only thing that lets it down is the lack of extra features. It is a simple, straight-to-the-point remastering, perfectly produced for a new audience. Unless the 3DS version is your all-time favorite game, the fresh graphics are not enough to justify spending the full whack just to replay it on the Switch.

While it may feel like a step back from Luigi’s Mansion 3, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is an excellent glow-up of an excellent 3DS game.

Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is well worth a play for those looking for sheer charm and puzzling adventures in equal measure; just don’t expect too many new twists and turns as you bust ghosts in the moonlight.
