Path of Exile is free (actually free), unique, and exciting, despite its often morose tone and themes. I don’t have much else to say except GO DOWNLOAD IT!

Path of Exile is a game that has been very well-received by the action RPG community. Because of that reception, we took PoE out for a test drive and offer our official review of the game. See what we've got to say before discussing it in the comments.

Path of Exile is a long-form loot grind, with a huge leveling system. It can feel a little too familiar at first, with the same basic combat loop you’ve played in a dozen other games. But after a while, after quite a while actually, the game takes on enough of its own personality. That, and it's free.

As much as I highly respect the freedom Path of Exile offers, the massive amount of story-rich adventuring content available for no cost, and the nods to some truly great action RPGs of yore, I never really fell into a good groove with it. Path of Exile gives you plenty of killing, interesting skill systems, and more grind than a flour mill.
