Persona 5 Strikers

Persona 5 Strikers may look and feel a bit different from the original, but at its heart, it still revolves around the Phantom Thieves that we know and adore. As a love letter to a group of characters and setting that I quickly grew attached to, having the chance to jump back in and steal some hearts with Joker and the crew is entirely worth the return trip to Japan. For that, Persona 5 Strikers is a fitting reunion for players that are looking for one last surprise from everyone’s favorite Phantom Thieves, no matter where the road takes them next.

I was fully prepared to not like Persona 5 Strikers, coming later this month from Omega Force and P-Studio. Despite expecting a Persona spinoff with Warriors style combat, Persona 5 Strikers is a Persona 5 sequel in every sense of the word. This is a must play for fans of the original although those here for a Warriors style game may be left disappointed by the focus on the story and out of combat moments

Overall, Strikers does everything it needed to do to succeed as a Persona 5 spin-off. While it doesn’t feel like a true sequel, it provides a tremendous amount of new content for fans of the Phantom Thieves. The adjustment in the combat system and the lack of socializing might satisfy some players, but those changes didn’t hit for me. Adjusting to real-time combat doesn’t take long, but more times than not the camera placement was the true enemy. Persona 5 Strikers is a slick and stylish spin-off that manages to successfully combine a surprisingly strong story with some satisfying Musou-inspired hack-and-slash action. There are a few issues here and there, with some necessary grinding at points, slight difficulty imbalances and a camera that can be a bit of a pain during busy battles but, overall, this is a thoroughly entertaining action RPG that comes highly recommended.

The gang gets back together for a much less interesting adventure.
