Playing Persona 5 Strikers is like being blessed with a reunion special of a beloved series that ended years ago. It feels different, perhaps through a new lens or just more timely, but the characters you grew to cherish are all back for one last, terrific adventure. Omega Force's influence is clear, but the game walks a confident line between the traditional Persona format and a musou spin-off. If you're a fan, do yourself a favour and don't sleep on this – Strikers is one hell of a road trip that deserves to be considered a proper sequel.

Persona 5 Strikers is a ton of fun and a fantastic game, but with the cutscenes missing sound effects and voice, you feel a little disengaged at times.

“It's all style and little substance in this sequel/spinoff to Persona 5.”

I call it the Final Fantasy Tactics effect. When there’s a series you enjoy, maybe even love, but there’s a spinoff that just eclipses all of its other games. It’s not a mainline entry, so purists look at you with disdain, but you just know it’s the best. FFT is the best example for me, because even after all this time, it’s still solidly above every other game for me. And that’s saying when Final Fantasy VII Remake is probably one of my favorite games of all time. That’s exactl...

Overall, Strikers does everything it needed to do to succeed as a Persona 5 spin-off. While it doesn’t feel like a true sequel, it provides a tremendous amount of new content for fans of the Phantom Thieves. The adjustment in the combat system and the lack of socializing might satisfy some players, but those changes didn’t hit for me. Adjusting to real-time combat doesn’t take long, but more times than not the camera placement was the true enemy. Strikers provide a somewhat compelling story, albeit strikingly similar to the base game. Seeing the critical acclaim that Persona 5 received upon release, it makes sense that Atlus would want to replicate much from it, but it would’ve been nice to have something a bit more different. If this ends up being the last hurrah for the Phantom Thieves, Strikers is a suitable swan song for the vigilante group.

Persona 5 Strikerstakes the RPG elements and fast-paced combat of Warriors games and fuses them together to create a worthwhile sequel that will please fans of both games.

Persona 5 Strikers is a worthy sequel to Persona 5/Royal while incorporating fantastic action! This is a must play title for Persona and JRPG fans alike. It perfects Omega Force's Musou action with RPG mechanics from Persona to create an new and refreshing experience for fans to spend time with.

Persona 5 Strikers retains much of what made Persona 5 such a brilliant game with few damaging compromises. The combat is stylishly fluid, the story carries over the hard-hitting themes of the original game, and its music is as brilliant as ever. Combat does get overwhelming at points and the camera system is awkward at best. But the most important thing is I’d only really recommend P5S if you have finished either Persona 5 or Royal to get the most out of the game’s backstory and themes. It is a wonderfully crafted return to a world of familiar friends who have matured since we last met them. While this universe continues to reinforce the importance of free will, rebellion and resisting control.

Some may say that it is just a spin-off, but in my opinion, I would say it is more Persona 5 and more Phantom Thieves of Hearts for everyone to enjoy.

The best Dynasty Warriors game so far is still barely competent compared to other action games but for those seeking more Persona 5 this is a fun, if trashy diversion.

The Phantom Thieves strike back in an action-packed adventure across Japan. Atlus and Omega Force join forces to provide a sequel to Persona 5 that has a huge amount to endear itself with.

Persona 5's RPG elements thrive in action-based combat, and while the story may not hit hard, the Phantom Thieves haven't forgotten what they're about.

The Phantom Thieves arrive on PC in a more streamlined form than the main Persona series, but an equally engaging one that's as stylish as it is action packed.

After Dancing in Starlight and getting the Royal treatment, the Phantom Thieves are back in another spin-off with Persona 5 Strikers.

Despite expecting a Persona spinoff with Warriors style combat, Persona 5 Strikers is a Persona 5 sequel in every sense of the word. This is a must play for fans of the original although those here for a Warriors style game may be left disappointed by the focus on the story and out of combat moments

Persona 5 Strikers suffers from some of the same faults as other Musou games, but this collaboration highly benefits from the strength of the source material. Even if you have no interest in the genre, if you enjoy Persona in any fashion, this is worth picking up at some point as you patiently wait for the next big entry.

Persona 5 Strikers is the confluence of two separate developers who love to experiment with their own work. Atlus will release a 100-hour turn-based Persona game, then put out a music game or 1-on-1 fighting game as canonical sequels. Omega Force is best known for the Dynasty Warriors series. Lately they’ve also been making a bit of a splash with the Hyrule Warriors games, mapping their trademark 1-vs-500 action gameplay onto The Legend of Zelda. It makes perfect sense, then, that these two...

Early on in Persona 5's development, P-Studio had considered an action-RPG format for the original Persona 5. While the Phantom Thieves' debut maintained Persona's traditional JRPG framework, Persona 5 Strikers showcases what could've been in an overall successful manner. There are kinks that could've been worked out, with battles lacking a significant degree of player feedback that unnecessarily inflates the game's difficulty. Strikers' story also takes a little too long to hit its stride, but it does reward players who stick around for the long haul. Acting as a sequel to the critically acclaimed JRPG, Persona 5 Strikers is a fantastic continuation for the Phantom Thieves.

Almost exactly four years ago, I got the chance to review one of the most stylish-looking JRPGs in a long while: Persona 5. Imagine my great delight when, without prompting, my editor dropped a PSN review code into my DMs, saying “I would imagine you’d be into this”.  The code was for Persona 5 Strikers, and he was right: I very much was into this.

Surprising as it may be, Persona 5 Strikers is a solid follow-up to Persona 5. Atlus and Omega Force resisted the temptation to just make it yet another Dynasty Warriors clone, putting in actual effort instead. Its Warriors-style action combat integrates much of the quirks from Persona 5 and still manages to retain the fun factor too. Low SP and short fights hamper it somewhat, but it feels good nonetheless. Being free of time constraints is great too, but the freedom is somewhat undercut by a lack of activities. The new “BOND” skills are fun to earn too, but the process isn’t as interesting as the Confidants system was. Even so, the gang is still fun to hang around with, the new characters are interesting (especially Sophia) and the overall presentation is excellent. Persona 5 Strikers isn’t an out-and-out homerun, but it’s still something both Persona 5 fans and Warriors fans can have a great time playing.

I was fully prepared to not like Persona 5 Strikers, coming later this month from Omega Force and P-Studio. Koei Tecmo’s hack and slash franchise, Dynasty Warriors, was never a favorite of mine and when I heard of its influence on this latest Persona offering, I feared I was about to encounter another mindless Dynasty Warriors clone with a Persona skin. That fear, as I have learned, was completely unfounded. Persona 5 Strikers is a deep, multifaceted game experience that respects its Persona roots. Despite the new hack and slash combat, Persona 5 Strikers could legitimately be called a full standalone Persona title, and if you’re a fan of the Persona franchise you’re in for a treat.

Persona 5 Strikers is a fantastic sequel to one of the best JRPGs of all time. It’s less of a Warriors game and more of an action RPG with fun, fluid combat, great characters, and an excellent story and soundtrack.

No fusion accidents here: the merging of Persona 5 and the Musou games has resulted in a very strong Persona indeed.

February 9, 2021 Read Review

Persona 5 Strikers is a slick and stylish spin-off that manages to successfully combine a surprisingly strong story with some satisfying Musou-inspired hack-and-slash action. There are a few issues here and there, with some necessary grinding at points, slight difficulty imbalances and a camera that can be a bit of a pain during busy battles but, overall, this is a thoroughly entertaining action RPG that comes highly recommended.

Blending an engaging and often thought-provoking narrative with combat that flirts with both strategy and chaos but always remains fun, Persona 5 Strikers is quite simply one of the best action RPGs I’ve ever played. If you love the Persona series consider it a must-play, but even action game fans that have never touched a Persona game before might want to give it a try. The combat is a far cry from Omega Force’s usual brand of mindless hack and slash; in fact, it’s totally unique. And alongside the usual Persona 5 flair such as bold visual design and an utterly sumptuous soundtrack, it creates an experience that could well be one of the highlights of 2021.

I’m a big fan of Persona 5, but I couldn’t have expected how much P5 Strikers was going to bring to the table. I thought I'd be looking at a Musou spinoff fighting maps full of hundreds of the same foe over and over again. Don’t get me wrong. That is somewhat a part of Persona 5 Strikers, but there’s also so much more to it. It’s more akin to a legitimate action-RPG sequel to the original Persona 5 - a sort of Persona 5-2 as I mentioned at the beginning. If you can’t get past the mashy grind or if you didn’t play through Persona 5, you might not find as much to enjoy here because this game doesn't spend much time at all getting players up to speed. That said, the narrative quality, colorful returning and new cast, gorgeous art and music, and mix of RPG and social sim mechanics I fell in love with are all here in Persona 5 Strikers. Put it all together and I’d argue it’s a must-have for any fan who wants to go on another heart-stealing adventure with the Phantom Thieves.

Persona 5 Strikers is proof that change isn't always a bad thing. While it may not hold onto everything that made its forebear a phenomenon, the new elements it brings to the table more than make up for it, and show that the series' future lies in more than just straight-forward turn-based JRPGs.

This spin-off from Koei Tecmo and Omega Force is easily several levels above the usual Musou-flavored licensed game and serves as a fantastic follow-up to Persona 5.

I've always been a fan of the Shin Megami Tensei games, but I'm honestly hopeful that Strikers sets a new standard for Persona spin-offs. Don't get me wrong: I don't want the JRPG series to end, and I love the traditional turn-based combat those titles offer. But the style and substance of the Persona series is so beautifully enhanced by the more action-oriented, team-based action of the musou genre that I can't help but hope we'll see more of these games in the future. Strikers is a mastercl...

Persona 5 Strikers may look and feel a bit different from the original, but at its heart, it still revolves around the Phantom Thieves that we know and adore. As a love letter to a group of characters and setting that I quickly grew attached to, having the chance to jump back in and steal some hearts with Joker and the crew is entirely worth the return trip to Japan. For that, Persona 5 Strikers is a fitting reunion for players that are looking for one last surprise from everyone’s favorite Phantom Thieves, no matter where the road takes them next.

A surprisingly polished and experimental game for developer Omega Force, Persona 5 Strikers is overall fairly solid but is hampered with clunky pacing and a lackluster plot.

February 9, 2021 Read Review

At the end of Persona 5, we parted ways with a terrific cast of characters we grew to love over the course of a 100-hour story. Last year’s Persona 5 Royal gave us an excuse to revisit that same adventure with additional content, but fans yearned for an all-new journey. Persona 5 Strikers reunites the cast from the original game six months later for an all-new trip across Japan. Even though it drastically changes a few key elements of the experience, it still feels like a true, compelling continuation of the game that stole RPG fans’ hearts nearly four years ago.

Persona 5 Strikers is a fantastic sequel to the original game. It's fun, stylish, and sleek, a road trip to remember.

February 8, 2021 Read Review

Persona 5 Strikers' main story is every bit the direct sequel to Persona 5 that it seems, making this summer road trip with the Phantom Thieves essential for fans of the original (and probably pretty confusing for anybody who hasn't played it). Its lack of Persona’s signature social and calendar systems are the only places its spin-off status becomes a bit of a letdown, but even replacing turn-based combat with real-time action doesn’t stop it from recapturing the feel of its predecessor overall. Its structure is far closer to action-JRPGs like Kingdom Hearts than the musou’s Omega Force is best known for, but the varied playstyles of each character and the story that pulls them along made the fairly simple act of hacking through shadows enjoyable to the very last surprise.
