The settlements that you come across are wonderfully detailed, fulfilling a sense that this is a world in the early steps of rebuilding itself after an apocalyptic event. Each settlement is inhabited with NPC’s that walk around town exchanging conversations with one another and going about their business as if this is a living, breathing world. It’s just another fine touch to the immersive atmosphere of RAGE.
If there is one company that is synonymous with first person shooters, it is id Software. Known for the likes of Doom, Wolfenstein 3D and Quake, id has been making FPS games for quite sometime and in many ways they are considered an industry leader in this genre. A couple of years ago id announced they were developing the next generation in their graphics engine called id Tech 5. Since that announcement a game was attached to this tech, and that game is Rage. Well the wait is over as Rage is on store shelves and we got a chance to play the final retail version.
Still, for the little qualms here and there, Rage does well to create an original and downright solid experience with a great presentation and tons of content. From a creator of stereotypes, it’s nice to see them create a game that is the furthest away from any of those pitfalls. And while it may not be the first choice of spoon-fed fanatics; only true naysayers can deny the sheer quality that Rage brings to the table in both shooting and racing alike. It’s like playing a game within a game!
RAGE offers one of the smoothest playing and best looking shooters on the market today. With gameplay that’ll keep the most grizzled FPS fans on their toes, RAGE doesn’t disappoint.
Seven years of waiting for a new game from id Software and the Texan studio is being talked about again - unfortunately, not because Rage is an outstanding production.
Rage is a decent revenge thriller that will give you some kicks even if it doesn’t leave a lasting impression. Cage leads a cast that delivers some pretty solid performances, only wavering into cheeseball territory every so often. There’s certainly nothing original about the action or the setup of Rage, but some interesting character dynamics make it worth a watch if you happen to catch it on cable.
That being said, there’s no denying that the combat elements are right up our street, and this gives us great hope that the upcoming Doom 4 will be an absolute blinder. For now, Rage is id Software’s venture in the realm of role-playing - and now we’d rather it goes back and does what it does best, thanks very much.
An asteroid glides silently through the vacuum of outer space, blazing a trail towards a collision course with Earth before hitting the surface of our fragile blue planet, irrevocably transforming the landscape forever. And unfortunately for you, you're one of the few to survive the impact, waking to a brave new world where mutants and feral gangs of bandits roam around looking for something to bludgeon, blast and pillage. It just so happens that in Rage, you inhabit the role of a major badas...
