This is undoubtedly one of the best platformers ever made, whether judging it by it beautiful style, addictive and unique gameplay, or its overwhelming amount of content. Rayman Legends was definitely worth the wait.

The content in Legends is more extensive than the previous game and even includes 40 levels from Origins that have been remastered visually and mechanically to make them feel like they belong in Legends. Unlockable Lum-generating pets and a variety of characters and levels to unlock for a very lengthy experience. Ubisoft has also included daily & weekly challenge modes which let players to compete in leaderboards and play some never ending stages to challenge the most hardcore.

Rayman Legends is a delightful platformer, and one of the best I’ve ever played. Thanks to clever level design that toys with genre conventions, it gets incredible mileage out of four basic moves. And with great local co-op and dozens of unlockables – including stages from Rayman Origins, special character skins, and mini-games – there’s a lot to do. The difficulty is so smoothly balanced that it can be played with with kids or adult friends and still have a great time.

It seems as if Rayman Legends is the little game that just won’t quit. From the Wii U to the Vita to the PS3 and Xbox 360 we now have the inevitable port to the PS4 and Xbox One. While the game itself is largely the same as its predecessors it still manages to stand out with an extra bit of shine that past gen consoles couldn’t quite achieve and is well worth your time if you haven’t played it yet.

With Rayman Origins setting a new standard for everyone's favourite French hero, and rubbing shoulders with the leaders in the platforming genre, Michel Ancel's long overdue sequel has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, Rayman Legends is a tremendously fun and brilliantly designed title that is the very definition of a must-have for fans of the hop-heavy genre.

With its emphasis on cooperative gameplay and mini-games that will certainly become go-to party games (KungFoot, we're looking at you), Legends is a must-buy for any gamer who knows how hard to find a truly engaging, local co-op experience is these days. With Origins, and now Legends under their belt, it's hard to imagine where the studio will take the series next - but we're in, regardless.

Rayman Legends isn't perfect, but it's still a cracking game.

Rayman Legends doesn’t need a thousand words of explanation and assessment. It’s not a weighty, narrative driven game that will make you postulate meanings or attribute deep allegorical intentions. This is a game about not thinking, it’s a game about letting go and just enjoying the colours and sounds and swirling, bouncing happiness that’s taking up your screen. You’ll have to practice elements, you’ll need to learn locations of hidden areas and timings of jump sequences to progress. But you’ll certainly never be bored.

It’s almost impossible not to smile while playing Rayman Legends. Whether you’re leaping, floating and slapping your way through Michel Ancel’s sumptuous 2D platformer in single-player or co-op, there’s a kind of madcap, anarchic and joyful exuberance to it that’s undeniable. It’ll make you grin from ear to ear.
