Resident Evil Village: Winters' Expansion Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Winters’ Expansion is a beautiful extension of what Village already has, offering plenty of new ways to have fun, whether that means making the base game easier or getting to punch everyone in the face as Chris Redfield. But the real tour de force here is Shadows of Rose, a storyline that offers a more psychological style of horror than the franchise usually plays in and is worth every penny.
The Winters' Expansion not only offers players a chance to return to this fantastic survival horror world but also asks gamers to experience a touching yet horrifying story that takes place after the events of the main game. Seriously, Shadows of Rose is Resident Evil storytelling at its absolute best.
What stole the show is Shadows of Rose. An emotional, heartbreaking story that doesn't let up and is one of the better DLC we have received for any Resident Evil title.
Regardless, the Winters' Expansion for Resident Evil Village is a fine addition to the game and a solid expansion that fans of the franchise shouldn't miss. Shadows of Rose's story is underwhelming, but the gameplay is classic Resident Evil through and through, and the Mercenaries additions should at least appeal to fans of that action-heavy game mode.
The additions found within Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion tell a satisfying, albeit short, new story while also spicing up Mercenaries mode and giving the core game a fresh look.
The Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion is a nice bundle of story and gameplay content that managed to engage and entertain me despite being a short-lived experience.
The Resident Evil: Village Winters’ Expansion DLC brings a trio of new content to the game. Unfortunately, it’s a mixed bag here. Shadows of Rose, the new story DLC featuring Rosemary Winters, isn’t as strong as we had hoped. However, The Mercenaries: Additional Orders greatly expands that mode with some great new content that adds hours of fun.
Shadows of Rose is a solid continuation of the Resident Evil Village story, with minor flaws in its survival horror focus.
Resident Evil Village Winters' Expansion adds some more content to the game. But it's mostly all rehashed and overpriced.
An uninspired retread of Resident Evil Village’s best moments, which squanders the opportunity to experiment or provide a hint about the franchise’s future.
All-in-all, the Winters’ Expansion is a great DLC addition and I hope for it to be a prelude to what is to come from the series!
