Smite

byTitan Forge Games2014

Smite is the online battleground of the gods. Players choose from a diverse cast of deities and use their unique powers to triumph over the opposition in 5v5 team matches. Smite Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

However Smite's shortcomings leave it feeling a little light. There's not the finesse and depth of other games in the same category. Additionally, it doesn't feel like Hi-Rez has any desire to sidestep the less interesting cliches of the genre. As a result that obsessive affection and desire for mastery that you get with the likes of League of Legends or Dota 2 seems less likely when it comes to Smite.

Hi Rez studios has a game changer on their hands here. SMITE is an incredibly fun and addicting MOBA that is perfect for those who are looking from a change of pace from your typical MOBA. It features a great cast of characters, great gameplay, fun game modes and plenty of incentive to keep playing. It's free to play but it isn't pay to win. It has been an absolute joy seeing SMITE grow over the last 8 months and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the game.

Smite's unique camera angle alone is enough to set it apart from other MOBAs, and developer Hi-Rez didn't stop there. Each map is polished, every God looks and sounds great, and exceptional Match of the Day modes offer plenty of variety. Some late-game balance issues aside, Smite’s divine execution of innovative ideas make it a worthy contender.

The success of games like League of Legends, DotA 2, and now SMITE is something all gamers should take notice of. SMITE is the newest prodigal child from HiRez Studios and the upcoming launch and current state of SMITE is nothing short of enjoyable. Featuring a wide selection of aesthetically and mechanically different characters, an easy-to-learn style of gameplay, and a growing population of players and competition; SMITE is well on its way to becoming a major player in the MOBA space.

Speaking as someone who’s dabbled around but never really caught the MOBA bug, I think SMITE has the potential to be a real game-changer for the genre. That simple switch to a third-person view completely changes the dynamic, making for a more action-packed and exciting experience that’s welcoming for beginners, but still complex enough for veterans to dig their teeth into. It might not otherwise stray too far from established genre staples, but it’s fun enough that you can forgive some...
