Return to the simple life in this remake of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life.
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is an amazing game. It has the mechanical soundness you’d expect from a long-running series while offering S-Rank quality updates to a classic title. What really makes this game sing and come together is the union of the time-proven gameplay and some truly heartfelt themes. Themes of life echo throughout this game. You must nurture your crops, your relationships, your child, and your own self as you journey down the tumultuous yet rewarding road of life. E...
Things have also been made brighter both literally and metaphorically; animal death is no longer a major concern, the shadowy color palette has been made more multifaceted, and the designs of many residents have been improved. The look of some marriage candidates and other villagers in the original A Wonderful Life arguably left something to be desired, and have been modernized in a way that feels like a good balance between original and new. Players can also live more like their true selves, with the ability to play as a male, female, or a nonbinary character in A Wonderful Life, as well as marry any of the eight candidates they wish.
A Wonderful Life on the GameCube was perhaps the most perfect execution of the Harvest Moon (now Story of Seasons) ethos out of all in the long-running series. As such, it’s the one that also generates the strongest pathos. Heart-meltingly warm good-naturedness, mixed with a perfectly adequate remake make this wholesome masterpiece relevant all over again. With the state of the world being this lousy, these little escapes are more valuable than ever.
STORY OF SEASONS: A Wonderful Life brings back a classic farming simulator with modern upgrades. Officially launching this month, the upgraded A Wonderful Life comes with updates that create a better experience for audiences today. Remaining faithful to the source material, STORY OF SEASONS: A Wonderful Life continues to deliver quality farming (and dating) for the new generation.
But to put simply, Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is an addicting and relaxing farming game with a solid gameplay loop and lots of replayability. Definitely one of the better farming games out there, so put down the sword and shield and pick up a watering can for a change—you won’t regret it.
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life streamlines old elements of the most unique entry in the franchise and offers improvements to a game with plenty of focus on not just farming but also on family.
The farming sim where every day is one day closer to the looming specter of death.
Marvelous Inc. recreated a great remake of the 20-year-old Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. While there are some things that make it feel outdated, there are also plenty of quality-of-life changes that make this a worthwhile farming game.
Improving old features, alongside introducing new ones, results in a delightful reimagining of a classic farming simulator.
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life does lose some of the original’s soul in this remake, but it gains some incredible convenience and quality of life updates to make it much more enjoyable for a modern audience. Returning to the Forgotten Valley is a nostalgic experience for veterans, and newcomers will discover why the original game is a classic.
A Wonderful Life is an amazing pick for those who love Story of Seasons, want to revisit a nostalgic location, or just pick up something new. With its unique mechanics and endearing setting, it is hard not to want to keep playing for hours at a time – especially with so many hybrid crops to discover and adorable chickens to snuggle.
A revived farm sim classic finally forced me to slow down.
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a nostalgic plunge into the farming sim classic, successfully offering engaging gameplay and dynamic character interactions despite some narrative shortcomings.
In today’s burning world, it’s nice to know there’s a type of game tapping into the good of humanity. Some would scream it’s a fictional take on reality, and to that, I say, yeah, you’re goddamn right. Slice-of-life romps would be depressing if they attempted to emulate the bullshit we live through daily. I don’t know about you, but that sounds miserable – so I’m immensely appreciative of developers like Marvelous and publishers such as XSeed. Their fantastic Story of Seasons ...
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a faithful remaster of the 2004 Gamecube title. Featuring a myriad of quality-of-life improvements and a memorable gameplay loop that goes through the chapters of your player's life, A Wonderful Life provides an alternative, more grounded approach to the farming and slice-of-life genre.
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is actually the third remake of the cutesy GameCube farming sim Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. This PS5 remaster collates the new features added by the PS2 special edition and Another Wonderful Life on the GameCube before bringing the game into the modern day, and it mostly succeeds in being a stand-alone experience, as well as a remake of a classic title.
If you can take the time to pace yourself and slowly enjoy everything the game has to offer from charming neighbors to home-cooked meals, then there is a whole lot to enjoy about Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life.
All things considered there are some really great aspects of this game that make it a fun play. I highly recommend STORY OF SEASONS: A Wonderful Life for both beginners and experienced farming RPGs as it is its own unique experience. It is a little slower-paced than others like it, but this may make it a less overwhelming experience.
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a remake of a classic farming sim from 2003 with wonderful changes that, with some tweaks, runs really great on the Steam Deck.
Remakes and remasters are more common than ever in 2023. What's most interesting is seeing how these new versions handle the issue of completely rebuilding versus simply making modern visual improvements. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a remake of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life that straddles the line between these two philosophies fairly evenly but still delivers an outdated experience in various aspects.
Farm ecology.Life simulation is a trendy game genre these days, and it's easy to see why. The real world [...]
I truly wanted Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life to feel like the true 2023 evolution of the game 10-year-old me treasured so much. But this is still very much a basic farming/ slice-of-life sim from 2003 with a fresh lick of paint to the visuals and a handful of minor improvements elsewhere. Hardcore fans of the original game may find some fun here, but those who have played more comprehensive farming sims from recent years, like Stardew, don't expect it to keep your attention for too long.
Minor changes here and there aren't enough to mask Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life's problems. It does offer up some interesting ideas though, and I hope a future entry implements them in a more engaging way.
