Tales of Graces f Remastered occasionally feels dated thanks to its visuals and limited map, but the unique structure of the plot and fun combat make it a worthwhile addition to the library of any JRPG fan. The characters remain the stars of the show, with more growth and change over the course of the game than we expected. If the frequent but short load times don’t get in your way, it is easy to sink dozens of hours into this adventure.

Could you imagine that after almost 15 years of being locked behind the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation 3, the 12th mainline title in the historic Tales of series, Tales of Graces, would one day be legitimately playable on modern gaming hardware? I sure didn’t. But Tales of Graces f Remastered – the entry title into Bandai Namco Entertainment’s new Tales Remastered Project – proves that the company is serious about bringing its titular Japanese action role-playing series to the curre...

In this review, we’ll explore Tales of Graces f Remastered, a significant release that marks Bandai Namco’s dedication to reviving classic titles through their “Remastered Project” initiative. This enhanced version brings new life to what was already an upgraded experience, as Tales of Graces f originally appeared on PlayStation 3 in 2010, itself an enhanced version of the 2009 Nintendo Wii release. After a 15-year wait, fans and newcomers alike can finally experience this beloved ent...

JRPGs like this don't come very often. The plot charges ahead at a brisk pace while the well-written characters develop through the web of deceit. The sheer quantity and quality of the combat and the variety it offers will have RPG fans feasting for a long while.

Tales of Graces f Remastered has a lot to say about what causes cycles of violence and abuse, and it’s not all executed well. The conclusion pulls some punches given how brutal the opening is. And if you dislike inter-party drama and daddy issues, this may not be the game for you. That said, if you’re a JRPG fan and especially a Tales fan, I still recommend it. Just maybe wait for a sale first.

At the end of the day, Tales of Graces f Remastered is everything a remaster should be: graphical upgrades that make an old game look better on modern platforms, a trove of quality-of-life additions that make the game better while staying true to the original version, and inclusion of all the DLC for the complete package. It’s really solid value, especially for those who have yet to play Tales of Graces in either of its previous two forms, since this is essentially the ultimate version. Now I just hope Tales of Xillia 1 and 2 or maybe even Tales of...

Tales of Graces F Remastered is a faithful remaster that improves upon the original PS3 version in every way. While it doesn’t really change much at its core, including some of its original flaws, it does have quite a few quality of life additions that makes it the best iteration for fans of the series and the original.

Tales of Graces f Remastered is an excellent remaster that offers worthwhile improvements but fantastic combat doesn't compensate for predictable narrative.

Tales of Graces f Remastered is a solid entry in the Tales of series. While the characters and story can be cliche at times, the overarching themes remain strong, and Bandai Namco's efforts to modernize the game are a standout showing.

In this modern era of games getting rereleased, it’s crazy to think it’s been over 12 years since Tales of Graces f was released on western shores. Thankfully you no longer need to dust off your ancient PS3 to play, as Bandai Namco has spruced up this classic RPG for modern consoles with Tales of Graces f Remastered.

Tales of Graces f Remastered does a great job improving the original's excellent gameplay with quality-of-life improvements and new options, such as the Grade Shop being available from the get-go, providing an experience that is fun right from the start for returning players. While the main story may not be particularly engaging, the charming cast and the outstanding combat system make the remaster a worthwhile purchase for newcomers who never had the chance to experience the PlayStation 3 original.

Playing Tales of Graces f again gives me a chance to reflect on the game’s story, which I enjoyed more so in my last playthrough some eight years ago. But I enjoyed running through the game’s campaign way more than Vesperia’s (which is nothing but a blur to me) thanks to fun cast members with a great English dub and an incredibly fun combat system. Don’t go into Tales of Graces f Remastered expecting deep worldbuilding and level design and I think you’ll have a lot of fun that way. ∎

Overall, Tales of Graces f Remastered is the same enjoyable experience from over a decade ago brought back in a clean package that runs well with some decent quality of life additions like the markers and toggles. Bandai Namco and the developers nailed it this time, no strings attached with this remaster. As for Tales of Graces itself, it stands out in the series with its sillier cast, striking art style, fast paced combat, and easy-to-understand and fun to master Title system. While I think this is the Tales Of game that benefits from co-op the most, you’re getting a...

Not only is Tales of Graces f Remastered the definitive version of what is arguably one of the best games in the series, but it's also a firm foundation for the future of other Tales remakes and remasters. As a Tales game, it delivers on all fronts, with charming characters that are easy to get attached to and be moved by, a predictable yet emotionally poignant narrative that tackles some challenging and atypical themes for the series, and an almost absurd amount of depth and customization afforded by its myriad of combat mechanics and progression systems. As a remaster, Tales...

What Tales of Graces f Remastered lacks in story, it makes up for in fun gameplay and complex battle mechanics. With real-time combat that occurs during small-stage open-world encounters, players are tasked with learning the two primary types of attacks. In Tales of Graces f Remastered, these attacks are known as A-Arte or physical attacks and B-Arte or Magic Attacks, and per some of the quality of life changes, players can customize battles like never before. This includes custom button mapping as well as toggling party members into manual or auto modes, where you can also adjust their focus in...

It’s hard to believe that the Tales series is celebrating its thirtieth year. Originally starting with Tales of Phantasia back in 1995, the beloved JRPG franchise has come a long way from its SNES days. It has been telling deep and impactful fantasy stories ever since, with the latest, Tales of Arise, revamping the entire formula for the better. With that said, while we’ve seen a large shift from the series, sometimes it’s best to go back to see what made the series great in the first place.
