Tamarin

byChameleon Games•2020

Tamarin features a unique gameplay mix that alternates between 3D-platforming and exploration, and third-person shooter gameplay. The game is inspired by the more open 3D adventures from Nintendo and Rare, and by nature and all the wonderful plants and animals in it.

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Tamarin left me feeling conflicted and a bit puzzled. There’s no denying that it’s fun and well-designed, with solid 3D platforming gameplay and third-person shooter combat, but the blatant lack of cohesion between these two styles of gameplay results in the overall package feeling a bit odd.

A lot of you may have never heard of Tamarin prior to its release, but I was looking forward to it for almost a year. The moment I saw its first trailer, I was instantly craving for it. Tamarin has a very cute protagonist and an interconnected world to explore but the gameplay and level design are extremely poor across the board.

Tamarin is a third-person action-adventure game set in beautiful Nordic scenery, starring the world's cutest monkey.

To bring you this review I've had to break my sacred review oath and not finish the game. It's for the good of everyone

Tamarin was created by Chameleon Games, a developer made up of mostly staff from Rare Studios’ glory days on the N64. I was expecting an exploration-based platformer/collect-a-thon, but instead, Tamarin draws its gameplay inspiration from 3rd person shooter Jet Force Gemini. This would have been great new for fans of that game, or other classic shooters like Golden Eye and Perfect Dark, but the jankiest camera ever prevents the game from ever being fun.
