Professional reviews from gaming critics

The new Terminator is surprisingly satisfactory. And we're not talking about the average film by Tim Miller, but about a fresh game from Krakow's Teyon – a developer who became notorious in the gaming industry with the infamous Rambo: The Video Game.

In the modern age, it's a stretch to pretend that the Terminator franchise is anything other than a cheesy sci-fi series with angry robots. The original movie and its sequel are revered, quite rightly so, but there have been several movies since then and they're pretty mediocre at best. This is why I can't help but feel that Terminator: Resistance, the new video game from Teyon and Reef Entertainm...

Terminator: Resistance shows a bunch of potential, even if it doesn't always meet it. I was happily surprised with deeper than expected progression, and great dialogue and relationship building. But playing the game I feel stuck in the past, with visuals from yesteryear meeting good but standard gunplay. The worst part is watching the newest piece, the Annihilation Line DLC, take a step back. The ...

If you’re a fan of the Terminator franchise and are after a single-player experience that lets you faithfully enter its world, you won’t be disappointed with Terminator: Resistance. Even its story is pretty good. Just don’t go in expecting a big-budget epic, because that’s not what it is. It’s simply a budget game with a fair amount of soul.

We want to emphasize that 5 will always be the “average” number, not 7. So by far, it’s 50% great and it’s also 50% bad.

That's the problem with Terminator Resistance. It's weak. It's unambitious. It takes a license and slaps it on a distinctly average game. And then stomps on the best bits of the license so all that's left is the cool-looking T-800 and some vague references. What's the weakest definition of terminate? To stop. Just stop. Target stopped. The Stoppernator.

It resembles more of a remaster of a last-generation videogame than a current-gen title. The story can be cool towards the end for Terminator fans as you see how the first two movies began, but it's not worth the boring gameplay, mediocre visuals, and uninteresting characters.

For a title set far into the future, Terminator: Resistance remains disappointingly locked into the past. With lackluster design, story, dialogue, AI, and combat, Terminator: Resistance is a genre example generations out of time. A full-price game offering a budget-price experience just makes it harder to recommend. No one can accuse Resistance of lacking potential, even ambition, but even the mos...

The most disappointing thing about Terminator: Resistance isn’t merely that it’s bad, it’s that it’s bad and yet it’s probably still the best Terminator game I’ve ever played. If you’re in the mood to mindlessly mow down waves of authentically modelled T-800s to the rhythm of Brad Fiedel’s iconic theme music, then Terminator: Resistance may well be adequate enough. But while there might already be...

Turning the Terminator franchise into an enjoyable game experience should be doable, but not on the budget Teyon have tried to do it on. Last-gen issues make this a time traveller that nobody wanted to come back.

There’s the endoskeleton of a good movie adaptation here, but with dire graphics, dull combat, and tedious missions this low budget shooter is very easy to resist.
