The Company Man plays out like I expected it to, but in a good way. The floors each look different, even though they look different they don't play too differently from one to the next. Boss battles are fun and different enough that I looked forward to playing each one at the end of a floor. Some of the upgrading options felt a little slow for my taste, but I only have minor complaints to file with H.R. about the game.
Menial tasks and harsh fluorescent lights, the monotony of office work can be a grind. Looking to smash through the cubical is The Company Man, an action platformer that pits you against departments of a large corporation. With your co-workers and line managers in your way, will you be able to fight the power structure and come face to face with the CEO?
Jim starts out with a keyboard that can be used for melee attacks, and each new area awards players with a different ranged ability for completing the section. Cycling through ranged weapons is available at any time, and each one has different energy costs and damage stats. Each type of weapon also has a set range to reach enemies, and generally the more damage it does, the shorter the reach. Jumping and dashing through every level is a necessity and a game of balancing movement, all while defeating various enemies to reach the boss fight at the end of the section.
