Trails From Zero is a wonderful game that offers the very best story telling and world building that gaming has to offer. Its presentation and dialogue heavy gameplay won't be for everyone, but if you love a good story and are looking to get immersed in a brilliant world, look no further.
Just like the rest of the franchise, Trails from Zero won’t be for everyone. While it starts up faster than other entries in the series, it’s still a slow burn compared to most other games. There’s also just such a ridiculous amount of dialog, so reading-averse gamers aren’t going to find much to enjoy here.
As one chapter in something that is almost experimental for video games – a genuine epic, spanning decades of game development, a half dozen consoles, and a dozen titles – Trails From Zero is a very fine entry indeed. The rich complexities of the narrative engage the brain, while the charming writing and characterisation also make for an entertaining experience. The story is everything to this series, so it’s just as well that is spot on, though thankfully the combat is enjoyable in its own right, and it’s all backed by excellent aesthetics. If you are new to The Legend Of Heroes, this…
The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero proves it is just as impressive as recent entries in the franchise and gives longtime fans and even newcomers an amazing RPG that was worth the wait.
The first title of the Crossbell duology is finally landing in the west. Is it worth exploring this unique province's stories? Signs absolutely point to yes.
Trails From Zero is an exceptional JRPG that feels like it’s cut from the same cloth as the golden era of the genre when games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VII were released. Its deep and complex narrative has a strong sense of mystery and isn’t afraid to dive into tough topics, all of which make the setting of Crossbell feel that much more realistic. An integral part of this experience is the translation work from the fan group The Geofront, and it’s easy to see how the success story of Trails From Zero could serve as a blueprint for bringing even more forgotten JRPGs to the West.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Hero is one of the best titles in the franchise and an incredibly well-made RPG overall. Experiencing the tale of the Special Support Section has never felt better, be it in terms of combat, writing, or presentation.
Anyone who has been in The Legend of Heroes space has heard of the game Trails from Zero. It introduces our main team from Crossbell that we see in the Trails of Cold Steel III and IV games. It has never reached the west before, and some were doubting it…
Trails from Zero is one of the most captivating RPGs, whose thoughtful use of setting and skillfully balanced storytelling make it a peer to the classics from the genre's golden age.
After 12 long years, Trails from Zero is a classic RPG that was worth the wait. Fantastic characters, world building, and fun combat create another game in the franchise that will appeal to long time fans and newcomers alike.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero is a sprawling narrative RPG flourishing with many themes, twists, and turns. As such, this review will ever so lightly spoil and discuss said topics.
It may have released a dozen years ago but The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero is finally available in the west and it's a great RPG.
If you enjoy RPGs, Trails from Zero is one I think you should check out. While knowledge of the Trails in the Sky franchise does help, as there are some crossover characters, this is still an intended entry point to the game. If you’re just looking to upgrade your experience from Switch to Switch 2 versions I might hold off, but otherwise I think this is a great introduction to Crossbell and the Trails series as a whole.
Final Weapon takes a look at the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero in this review.
Redeeming a fantasy metropolitan police department is a strangely pedestrian setup for a JRPG. Forgettable plot aside, Zero features some of the best writing and character narratives in the genre.
Western fans of The Legend of Heroes can finally officially experience this amazing lynchpin entry of the series and how the Special Support Section came together!
If you played Trails of Cold Steel III and IV, The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero does a great job of filling in some of those story gaps. If you've never played a Legend of Heroes game, it's a great place for JRPG fans to start.Read More
Trails from Zero is kind of a miracle in its own right, the fact that we got a Western release after so many years, and that Trails from Azure is right around the corner, still feels surreal. But, for all its strengths, this is still a game from more than a decade ago, that was originally designed for the PSP. If you can get past that, then Trails from Zero won't disappoint, and whether you are a series veteran or a newcomer, it provides a wonderful world in which you can truly lose yourself for hours at a stretch.
Though Trails' usual splendor of combat options here should come as no surprise, what's striking with this year's remastering is how well this once portable-only entry has translated across to more modern-day portable screens alike. Improved textures, a modernized presentation and sensible quality-of-life inclusions are but the fitting accompaniment for one of the series' least talked-about entrants and now more than ever, deserving of recognition for how much, a decade-plus later, it gets right. How well this game's world-building on top of its gameplay has held up is praise in of itself, but it's PH3's assistance this time round in freshening up the overall look that helps Trails from Zero shine as a deserved look-in, no matter one's prior experience with the series. An intriguing tale full of interesting world-building and appealing character moments alike, brief visual and performance issues aside, The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero -- specifically for those on Switch -- should not go overlooked.
“The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero puts together a politically engaging story, fun gameplay, and likable heroes into one epic RPG.”
Trails From Zero might be late to the scene but even now, Nihon Falcom's JRPG remains one of the best Trails games yet.
Even after waiting a whole decade for it, Trails of Zero feels completely worth it. The game helps bridge the gap between Trails In The Sky and Trails of Cold Steel. The story on its own still engrossed me into playing for hours wanting to do more. Doing the side-quests even gives plenty of more lore about your party to help you feel closer to them throughout your journey. The graphics may seem a bit dated, but to me, it felt like a pure reminder of how this game really existed in its era updated for modern players and as a result feels like an amazing remaster. The game is still worth the price tag 12 years after its original release and it fits great on the Nintendo Switch giving me that feeling as if I’m playing the game on the PSP only on a bigger screen. Trail From Zero is everything you could ask for from a remaster and localisation of a cult classic and I am glad it finally made its way into my hands.
The Legend of Heroes is one of the most interesting JRPG sagas out there. So much so that a group of dedicated fans created their own unofficial English translation of Trails from Zero, one of a few entries that never saw an official release overseas. However, thanks to a collaboration with the publ
