It's only a few missteps, including painstaking attention to detail, that keep PGA Tour 13 from being the same type of rebirth that Tiger Woods is hoping for on the actual Tour. There's a lot to be learned about the sport of golf, and a lot that the game is willing to teach, but it's how engrossing a player finds the entire package that will determine whether it's worth checking out.
It’s been a year now since the publicity surrounding Tiger Woods’ marital mishaps forced any real acknowledgement of the star to be removed from EA’s premium golf series. But time is a great healer, and, heading into the Masters, last year’s laughing stock is now the one to watch. That change in attitude is reflected throughout Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 too, with the sport’s biggest name returned to the limelight for his success on the links (and not with the ladies). Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 knows what makes it great, and the Total Swing System is an authentic, excellent improvement. The meaningful new controls enable players to feel great about their skill while holding them accountable for their faults. Beyond that, Tiger 13 struggles to succeed. The Pins, Country Clubs and Legacy mode are all welcome additions, although they offer differing levels of appeal. Even with the masses of temptingly fenced-off content, and the obvious attempts to leverage more money out of you, the best courses are probably those that you have access to from the start so, if you don’t mind staring at greyed out course...
When Tiger Woods tees-off at the Augusta Masters later this week it will be as an outsider, a man with just one tournament win to his name in two and a half years. How things have changed.
