Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

At $10, Tiny and Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers is a worthwhile investment for anyone looking for a fun distraction. It’s the right length to keep from feeling too repetitive, though I’d still have enjoyed it a lot more if the types of tasks I had to do had evolved in ways beyond cut, push, pull, repeat, or if the story had been more heavily implemented.

You are Tiny, a technophile with a ray cutter, a gripping device and a good outlook. Your nemesis Big has stolen the only heritage your grandpa left you: a pair of white underpants! Run, jump, drag, shove and laser your way through the ancient scenery to regain those underpants.

Who knew a game about underpants could be so clever?Have you been upset by the severe lack of games based on magical ancient underwear? Well good news! [...]

That’s not to say there isn’t something special here already. Buried deep within the game lies a sense of adventure and exploration that is every bit as visionary as inspired as the original Legend of Zelda. Despite the story being fairly childish and generally making little to no sense, the atmosphere and universe are so well-realized that while playing you will truly feel like you are discovering a forgotten civilization and are on a journey as epic as ever seen in the medium of interactive entertainment. That, combined with a soundtrack for the ages, is a sight to behold.

Physics and control issues aside, it is hard not to recommend Tiny and Big. This is a bite-size downloadable title with kinks that need working out, but the freedom in both exploring and destroying is a breath of fresh air for anyone tired of linear titles. Most excitingly, this is only the first episode, so hopefully Black Pants Game Studio will polish off the last few rough edges and give us a sequel that trumps the first adventure.
