While the graphics occasionally dip into Uncanny Valley territory, overall the presentation feels like developer Hangar 13 has paid attention to what makes for a great career mode, while balancing difficulty and accessibility to boot. TopSpin 2K25 is a decent return to form for the franchise, especially when you stick to the more casual side of things. Trying to get better at the game, however, can be fraught with frustration owing to its control scheme. Ultimately, there’s still a fun career mode to dive into with plenty of content for tennis fans.

TopSpin 2K25 is a franchise revival done right. The beloved tennis simulator has never played this well, and the commitment to authenticity will delight fans. However, the career mode is a grind, and online play lacks staying power.

On the court, TopSpin 2K25 is brilliant. It's realistic, satisfying, and feels great to play, especially as you get to grips with the timing needed for every shot type. It's just a shame that such good tennis gameplay is housed in such bland modes that have you grind for very little sense of progression.

I was very saddened by the fact that after the premiere of Top Spina 4 in 2011, I never got Top Spina 5 (and I waited a whole 13 years). Today I got TopSpin 2K25 and... I don't know what to think about it.

A well constructed tennis game that takes practise to get the hang of, with neat role-playing style player upgrades and a season-based structure that helps prevent monotony.

Top Spin 2K25 gets the fundamentals right with fun tennis gameplay but the rest of the barebones package doesn't reach the previous highs of the franchise.

If you enjoy over-indulgent, over-technical gameplay as opposed to genuine fun then Top Spin 2K25 is the game for you!

A great tennis sim with no modes to play them in makes Top Spin a mixed bag.
