Campaign co-op is definitely missed, but Fall's superior single-player mode goes a long way to make up for it. Escalation raises the bar on the now-requisite survival mode, and competitive matches—complemented by a strong character progression and customization system—do a fine job supplementing tried-and-true online melees with Transfomers-specifc gameplay and style. Fall of Cybertron doesn't pack the same “Oh my god, someone finally made a good Transformers game!” punch as its predecessor, but it's an entirely worthy successor no Optimus Prime fan should pass up.
Whether you are a Transformers fan, or just a fan of wildly fun games, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron shouldn't disappoint you.
Fall of Cybertron sparkles thanks to a decent script, clever characters and the fact it steers well clear of the territory most other shooters are aiming for.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a worthy follow-up to War for Cybertron - with numerous improvements to the core formula and a number of smart variations on the third-person action shooter gameplay that utilize impressive new Transformer characters. Not all of the isolated improvements mesh into a cohesive experience - unlike the game's kick butt Combaticon combiner Bruticus. That said, while certain gamers may find some clunky or underwhelming elements, by the time the credits roll, most players will have thoroughly enjoyed everything that Fall of Cybertron does right - even if there are a...
Can somebody lend me a copy of War for Cybertron because I don’t remember that game looking as bad as this one does. While the transformers themselves are well designed and wonderfully animated, everything else looks like total ass. The game has some serious aliasing issues, insane texture pop-in, everything has a sort of washed out look and things that are just a little bit away from you look horrid. Even the character creation screen in multiplayer is painful to look at when you’re not zoomed in on a specific body part. The voice acting is stellar though so that’s a plus.
Despite the lack of co-op Fall of Cybertron is a huge improvement on its predecessor, offering plenty of entertainment for the non-fan and out-and-out geekgasms for the Transformers acolyte. The only reason I’m not scoring it even higher is the game having debatable long-term appeal, and because War For Cybertron pretty much laid every foundation here. If you want a fun, entertaining shooter you should look no further, and if you’re a Transformers fan you’ve already got it. ‘Til all a...
Never underestimate the power of nostalgia. It's the reason why we liked Transformers: War for Cybertron perhaps more than it deserved, although it was undoubtedly the best Transformers game since now defunct developer Melbourne House's effort back in 2004. Amid abhorrent Michael Bay movie tie-ins, War for Cybertron stood head and shoulders above every other Transformers game that had gone before it, and still it emerged underrated and unappreciated by many. High Moon Studios knows where it w...
