Troll and I Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Going on an adventure with a virtual friend is nothing new in gaming. However, Troll and I offers an interesting approach to the genre so let's see if this big hairy beast has what it takes to wow gamers.
There were parts of the game that I genuinely did enjoy. The soundtrack, for example, is good if a little understated. And watching the tie between boy and beast mature was at times, a touching experience. I’m sure that it will find a small audience and fanbase because of its premise, but for me, a lack of overall presentation, a litany of technical pitfalls and average at best gameplay means it’s best to avoid Troll and I – just as you would Troll’s apparent stench.
Troll And I tries too many things at the same time. It's a classic case of a development studio getting over ambitious and failing to achieve their goals with the game. With more development time, Troll And I could have provided a memorable experience but right now players should stay well away from it.
Spiral House's Troll and I has a charming storyline but the game has a lot of issues.
Fusing combat and exploration with puzzles and adventure, Troll and I, developed by Spiral House and Maximum Games, is a story about friendship and survival
I'd say it's shocking Troll and I is as bad as it is, but it's really not. It takes so many good ideas from other games and uses them completely wrong. It tries to tell a simple story and totally stumbles over it. It lies to you about how to progress the game. Finally, in a co-op game, it somehow fails at making the co-op fun. Just avoid this game.
Troll and I suffers from having champagne ambitions on a beer budget and is marred by a plethora of issues. Seriously subpar technical, design, narrative and gameplay elements make it a borderline insufferable experience, and as a result the game cannot be recommended to anyone at all, let alone at its AAA price.
Troll and I does an amazing job of trolling people with its awful overall quality and expensive price tag. Spiral House just showed how incompetent they are when making video-games. I don’t recall playing one of their games, but this one is just disgusting. To be transparent, I didn’t finish the game after my third hour because it’s too agonizing for me to even care anymore. I was greatly disappointed with Troll and I, this is why we should not expect too much. It saddens me.
