World to the West
World to the West is a pulpy, cartoony top down action adventure inspired by European adventure comics. Take control of four unique characters —Lumina the Teslamancer, Knaus the orphan, Miss Teri the mind bender and the gloriously mustachioed strongman, Lord Clonington—, each with their their own motivations, skills and interweaving storylines, as ...

World to the West Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
In total, World to the West is another solid entry in the Zelda-like games that are hitting the Switch’s eShop. Its shortfalls are minor, and its upsides are great. If, like me, you long for a top-down Hyrulian adventure on the Switch, then World to the West is a great game for you. It’s out today on the Nintendo Switch, for a mere $19.99 and worth every penny for a nice 10-20 hour adventure.
This fantastic indie adventure finally comes to the console it was born to be on.
The ultimate question, if you’re reading this review, is where you stack up with World to the West. My answer to this question is hails back to coffee: while there are universal truths to do with coffee (e.g., Starbucks’ is best avoided), some of us would argue in favour of flat whites while others would swear by latte; neither is wrong. I doubt World to the West can stand up to a direct comparison with Breath of the Wild on any level; philosophical or practical, but I also do not think such a comparison is justified in the first place due to the former’s unassuming nature. One thing’s…
Top-down adventure games are almost always compared to The Legend of Zelda. However, World to the West forges its own identity as you control four unlikely heroes in a beautiful and familiar world.
While I’m ultimately coming away from World to the West more disappointed than I expected, I admire the expanse and ambition. It’s a gorgeous game with some delightful, puzzling moments. This is still a cool game, just one with some flaws that hold it back from being exemplary.
World to the West is a solid Link to the Past inspired experience that fans of that style of game will enjoy, and it was extremely interesting to see the world of Teslagrad fleshed out more through these four new characters. It is just unfortunate that the totem mechanic, which sounds cool on paper, ends up feeling like unnecessary padding that can make the game more frustrating than fun.
What happens when a teleportation-mishap leaves four heroes lost in a strange world, each packing their own unique special powers? Teamwork, that’s what.
Rain Games definitely knows how to make a quality title. If you have any fondness for Zelda, you should really check this out. Even if you don’t happen to enjoy Nintendo’s classic series, World to the West is fun enough to warrant a playthrough from even the sternest of players.
World to the West throws a fun wrinkle into the adventure game mold. How often can you let action unfold while controlling four unique characters? Their abiliti
Another thing I didn’t like about the game was the lack of blocks and dodges. You go into fights just going all out using all your skills but when there is a need to dodge or block an enemy’s hits your character fails to do so. I remember getting frustrated on a particular boss fight where the enemy pours down bullets on your character and your character will just walk helpless as he eats all of these bullets. Add to the fact that you only have enough hit points to actually withstand such a hit. One other can run fast though but I guess it is just my luck that they placed the character that ca...
