There is, however, a sort of critical linchpin in each and every F2P game review, and it's the question of whether the game enticed me to spend money. Once again, it did not. Perhaps it's was unknowable quality of what's on offer: sure, that new Warframe seems better, but it doesn't look that much better? Because in a game with stats and cosmetics in one bundle, I want both. Moreover: do I really want it when I could buy a whole other game for a few bucks? Has the game made me care enough?

Warframe isn’t an easily approachable game, but it’s one that’s worth getting comfortable with. It’s a game that never stops growing from a developer who is passionate about working with its community. It also just feels amazing to play, with a satisfying kill-collect-craft loop that’s supported by a mountain of player choice and some wonderfully responsive movement mechanics. Some of its systems are needlessly complex and improperly explained, making it easy to get overwhelmed or burnt out, but there’s just so much to do here that Warframe always excitingly pulls me back with its next update.

First things first, you are provided with a choice of which Warframe to play as.  You can choose from three starter types including the Excalibur warframe for complete newbies or Loki & Mag warframes which are for more experienced players with each offering up different play styles. Your warframe can always be switched out later on in the game too.  Once you choose you start off in a tutorial mode to help you get adjusted to the gameplay particulars including controls and some of the storyline to make things part a bit more interesting.  The real tricky part about the tutorial is actually gett...

Warframe has a great foundation, but there’s almost nothing unique or exciting about it. With a free-to-play scheme on top of how grindy the game feels in general (especially without a static group), it can wear on you even after a few hours of play. If you’re looking for a new shooter, give it a shot on another platform if you can while the Xbox One bugs are being ironed out.

If you’re looking for a decent online shooter to play with friends, you can do a lot worse. Warframe is a treat for the eyes and though it may lack context, it still plays incredibly well. It’s just a shame that Digital Extremes is so obviously putting the squeeze on anyone fed up with hours of credit-farming.
