Yes, I recognize the irony in finding a game subtitled The Nightmare Prince to be a pleasant little dream of a thing. But that’s the joy of it. It’s a simple trick, a sleight-of-hand, and it pulls the trick off over and over by being really good at that simple...

Warsaw has moments of brilliance that left me wondering how a game can have such lofty highs, only to be brought careening down by some truly head-scratching design choices. With some tweaking, this could be a very special game; so often is this particular point in history overlooked, glossed over...

Despite that complaint, Gunvolt Chronicles is just simply a fun game to play, and is very much worth your time. I would recommend playing the baseline Azure Striker Gunvolt games first if you care at all about the world and lore that’s expanded on here, though.

If you’re looking for something to play with friends and kill some time, Contra: Rogue Corps may be worth a look once it goes on sale. For such a beloved franchise, though, this really isn’t the best way to reintroduce Contra after a near-decade hiatus.

Cat Quest II is relatively short, but I’d argue it’s as long as it needs to be. I didn’t feel a need to break from the adventure solely for the sake of grinding, and I finished before I grew bored of the simple gameplay loop. It’s fun, but it doesn’t...

As I mentioned, this was my first taste of games of this ilk, but I probably should have known what I was getting in to what with already having a distaste for grind-heavy games. I feel like I would’ve had more fun with this title if I didn’t have to...

If they can sort the performance issues out, this might be a decent game to play on Switch, but only if you really enjoy button-mashing action/adventure. I just can’t see a reason to pick it up on PC or traditional home consoles when there are so many better alternatives.

The gameplay is great, but the game’s other problems are too substantial to simply overlook. This game is being sold at near-AAA-title prices ($50 on PC and higher on console), but it has too many issues to recommend as a full price title. The gameplay aspects are very solid and...

I’ll admit that I’ve never been into Gears of War, but I found myself enjoying the characters and the gameplay that Gears 5 offered up. However, the game ultimately feels short and the narrative almost feels unfinished with how The Coalition decided to end things. The four acts I spent...

Little details seem to be the focus of this expansion. I was pleasantly surprised when running around the Hoarfrost Reach the snow actually became stamped down where I walked, and usually wound up a mess of slush anywhere I’d been fighting. By far my favorite small edition has to be...

I really don’t know who this game is for, aside from already devoted fans of the franchise. I’m sure there are plenty of Utawarerumono fans out there, but this game didn’t seem to make any attempt at pulling in new ones. Existing fans may enjoy this, and I don’t want...

I was a fan of the original Catherine, and I’m pleased to find the changes are mostly for the better. If you like puzzle games, specifically ones about finding patterns through the noise, and don’t mind potentially uncomfortable questions about mature topics, I highly recommend picking up Catherine: Full Body.
