Astro's Playroom proves that the DualSense's haptics and adaptive triggers are for real — and that Astro Bot could have a very bright future on PlayStation 5.

Astro's Playroom Review - As the first PS5 game most players will play, pre-installed on every console out of the box, Astro's Playroom demonstrates what makes the PS5 and DualSense so special while celebrating 25 years of PlayStation history.

Is there an argument that Asobi Team is the most inventive Sony studio right now? The small sector of Japan Studio is certainly getting the most out of the platform holder’s hardware, as Astro Bot Rescue Mission proved by completely reinvigorating the classic 3D platformer on PlayStation VR. With its latest project, free PlayStation 5 pack-in Astro’s Playroom, the group has single-handedly demonst...

The developer, SIE Japan Studio, has forged a platformer from the same blend of delirium and precision that blows through Super Mario, and then filled it with fossils.

Nintendo has Mario, Sega has Sonic, Microsoft has Master Chief, but Sony never really latched onto a single character to represent its brand (no, Toro and Polygon Guy don’t count). This changed when Sony embraced Astro Bot as the pseudo-mascot of the PSVR, and he quickly became a fan favorite. Now, Astro is back in the PS5 pack-in game Astro’s Playroom, which serves as an introduction to the syste...

The Playstation 5 is a beast of a machine, offering lightning fast loading times and gorgeous visuals and resolutions thanks to its sheer horsepower. But that’s not my favorite thing about the new console, though. My favorite innovation featured in Sony’s new system is its brand new controller, the Dualsense. Not only is this thing comfortable like no other Dualshock before it, but it features ton...

Ever since PlayStation 4 released, Astro Bot has been starring in some truly excellent games and his latest PS5 adventure is a real hoot.

Astro’s Playroom surprised and delighted me. This PS5 pack-in most certainly hues closer to a technical showcase, essentially a loosely-structured sandbox to mess around in and discover what the PS5 has to offer. But it has enough collectibles, creative ideas, and genuinely exciting uses of the DualSense that PS5 owners shouldn’t brush this one aside in the launch lineup. After months and months o...

Astro’s Playroom took me by surprise. I was expecting a short tech demo that would impress me because of the new controller, but instead, I was greeted with a full-blown, short and fun 3D platformer.

Astro Bot has replaced Knack as the cute Sony mascot and I’m okay with it. Although Astro’s Playroom isn’t a killer app, booting up your PS5 and playing it for free is a great way to get accustomed to your shiny new toy from multiple angles.

A highly enjoyable introduction to the PlayStation 5 but also a charming celebration of the entire history of PlayStation, even if it’s something you’ll only ever play once.
