But if you’re happy to jump into more of the same, albeit on a greater scale, you’ll find a lot to love here. And on the new generation of consoles, Borderlands 3 shines better than ever. Finally realising its potential, Borderlands 3 goes from great to essential on PlayStation 5, thanks to its new visual features, DualSense implementation and the ability to have up to four players blasting their way through the game locally. If you've been holding off playing Borderlands 3 until now, your watch has ended.

Borderlands 3 is the best Borderlands has ever been. It's beautiful, funny, and frantic in the best ways. There are issues, but those shouldn't deter you too much from having an absolute blast.

Awesome guns. Irreverent humor. Great characters. Lots and lots of bad guys to shoot. Borderlands 3 is more of the same, but when it's this much fun, who cares?

Borderlands 3 is the return of the king of loot shooters, with enough familiarity there for fans. The gameplay is the best it has ever been in the series, so get ready to blast some bandits. There’s just a few things keeping it from being a truly remarkable game.

Borderlands 3 does very little to reinvent itself. It plays it safe, sticking to the tried and tested formula that made the original games such a success. A must-play for fans of the genre and past Borderlands games, but much of the same for anyone else.

To conclude, I’d like to offer you a glimpse into the true meaning of friendship, as Matthew and I were taught it under the benevolent guidance of Brute-a-lot 3. Playing as the beastmaster robot, FL4K, I got to choose an alien pet to follow me through the game. Needless to say, I chose the massive ant thing, and over the time we spent in Pandora and beyond, that ant became incredibly special to me. Say what you will about Borderlands 3, it introduced me to one hell of an ant:

The phrase, "doesn’t do anything particularly new," is apt to describe Borderlands 3. It’s more Borderlands and that’s just fine for fans of the franchise. Gearbox has done an excellent job crafting an experience fans will feel familiar with. Additional touches, like the increased maneuverability and in-depth Vault Hunter customization, help improve the experience and bring Borderlands 3 more in line with current standards.
