Borderlands 3 on next-gen systems, and the PS5 in particular-thanks to the immersive use of DualSense features such as adaptive triggers-is the definitive way to play the third mainline Borderlands game either in a full crisp 4K or in a game-changing 120 frames per second.

Borderlands 3 is the return of the king of loot shooters, with enough familiarity there for fans. The gameplay is the best it has ever been in the series, so get ready to blast some bandits. There’s just a few things keeping it from being a truly remarkable game.

The cult series of looter shooters has returned to give us crazy firearms and tons of cannon fodder to kill once again. What's new in the world of armed Sirens and Space Vaults? Not much – and that's exactly what we wanted!

Borderlands 3 is the modern looter shooter at its finest. The signature humor is alive and well, and with a cast of four fresh Vault Hunters and over a billion guns (and some with legs!), there’s a lot to be excited about. It builds on and evolves everything that makes Borderlands great without changing the core looting and shooting that makes Borderlands, Borderlands.

Borderlands is all about guns, poop, and dick jokes, and you can look forward to a ton of all three of those things in Borderlands 3. Where many series seek to innovate, Borderlands 3 delivers more of the same for better or worse. At least this time around you can get off the tan hell that is Pandora and visit some other planets.

A strong return for the series with enough changes to make combat feel fresh and exciting, some great new characters and an awesome soundtrack. A fun time from start to finish.

Borderlands 3 is a worthy sequel to the much-beloved Borderlands 2, but it desperately needed a few more months in the oven to clear up its myriad technical hurdles.

Good ol’ Marcus furnishes us with a story to start off Borderlands 3. Fame, glory, and carnage lies ahead for those on the path of the Vault Hunter, mostly. Back in Pandora once again, in a familiar yet new landscape, dive into the game and experience what it does best: lots of guts and gunfire.

It’s a bit like that bloke in your office. You know the one. He’s gobby and greasy and Tells It How It Is – “If snowflakes choose to take offence, mate, that’s their lookout, yeah?” – and somehow, every year, you’re stuck next to him at the Christmas meal, live-tweeting his descent into that magical twilight of inebriation that makes him think he can pull your boss with her husband sat on the other side of him.

Borderlands 3 is just another Borderlands game. I came for a Borderlands game and I definitely got one. The game is not novel, at least in regards to mechanics, but it's a fantastic game nonetheless, especially for its story and characters. It feels the same, plays the same, and all my expectations have been met. It's a game I would recommend to anyone.

Despite issues with the narrative and the mountain of bugs and technical issues, Borderlands 3's fun factor is still undeniable. The game is also one of the few large-scale, big budget adventures playable entirely in couch co-op that has released this entire console generation. Future patches will undoubtedly clean up many of its technical problems, and content updates like the upcoming Bloody Harvest event and more substantial DLC episodes will increase its value even further. Borderlands 3's performance issues certainly hold it back at launch, but a few months from now it should be a much better overall experience.

Borderlands 3 has finally arrived with a no small amount of baggage in tow. It’s been over seven years since the release of Borderlands 2, and Gearbox Software and its mercurial leader Randy Pitchford haven’t exactly endeared themselves to fans in that time. The run up to launch was particularly fraught, with Epic Game Store exclusivity, confusing messaging about microtransactions, and Randy Pitchford’s ugly public feuding with former Borderlands voice actors (to name just a few of the many controversies) threatening the derail the hype train.

Awesome guns. Irreverent humor. Great characters. Lots and lots of bad guys to shoot. Borderlands 3 is more of the same, but when it's this much fun, who cares?

Borderlands 3 is the best Borderlands has ever been. It's beautiful, funny, and frantic in the best ways. There are issues, but those shouldn't deter you too much from having an absolute blast.

The phrase, "doesn’t do anything particularly new," is apt to describe Borderlands 3. It’s more Borderlands and that’s just fine for fans of the franchise. Gearbox has done an excellent job crafting an experience fans will feel familiar with. Additional touches, like the increased maneuverability and in-depth Vault Hunter customization, help improve the experience and bring Borderlands 3 more in line with current standards. The core looting and shooting are as fun as ever and playing around with the character’s different skill trees rarely gets old. Exploring new worlds is novel, though it would have been nice to see them...

Still, despite the fact Borderlands 3 seemingly wants me to hate it, I really, really like it. Like, a lot. I say this as someone who’s become a bit disenfranchised with the loot shooter. The moronic, sophomoric (sophomoronic?) dialogue masks over one of the most thoughtful, satisfying shooters you can play right now. You just have to learn to tune out the white noise, and to swap your weapon before you open a chest, you idiot.

Borderlands 3 delivers on the looting and shooting, but everything else unfortunately falls flat. The four playable classes are the best the series has ever seen, and the loot progression has been fine-tuned to an impeccable degree. Obnoxious characters, painfully unfunny jokes, and numerous technical shortcomings make Borderlands 3 a hard game to recommend to anyone but existing fans of the franchise. If you already love Borderlands, you’ll like Borderlands 3. If you don’t, then this one won’t do anything for you.

I’ve got very mixed feelings about Borderlands 3. Overall I like it and it’s fun to play, but it could have been so much more and the writing feels like time traveling back to your high school days and being surprised and a little disappointed at how immature everyone is. Few things in life are as embarrassing as the person you were five years ago. If you’re not embarrassed, then I’m sorry to say that you may well be the Borderlands 3 of your friend group; stuck in the past unable to grow or change in any meaningful way, relying...

Borderlands 3 does very little to reinvent itself. It plays it safe, sticking to the tried and tested formula that made the original games such a success. A must-play for fans of the genre and past Borderlands games, but much of the same for anyone else.

The Borderlands franchise holds a very dear place in my heart. It is one of those few games that I always play through first in co-op mode (either split screen or online) with my spouse before venturing out on my own. Borderlands 2 got us through a rough couple of months when it launched. After that experience we dove into the original. And this past weekend, we lived and breathed Borderlands 3. With Amara as my main and my husband’s FL4K by my side, we visited old friends, made new ones, and collected a metric shit-tonne of loot along the...

To conclude, I’d like to offer you a glimpse into the true meaning of friendship, as Matthew and I were taught it under the benevolent guidance of Brute-a-lot 3. Playing as the beastmaster robot, FL4K, I got to choose an alien pet to follow me through the game. Needless to say, I chose the massive ant thing, and over the time we spent in Pandora and beyond, that ant became incredibly special to me. Say what you will about Borderlands 3, it introduced me to one hell of an ant:

A lot has changed in the FPS game scene since 2012, when the last numbered entry of Borderlands arrived in our gaming machines. In all the ways that matter, the sequel hews closely to the blueprint established in that well-loved release, exploding forth onto our screens with a bevy of wild weaponry, asinine humor, and bloody battles. The formula feels dated. But with some updates to UI and gameplay, and a huge adventure across a variety of destinations, it’s easy to embrace the insanity once again, even if – in the back of your head – you know it all...

If Borderlands 3 is what happens when a modern looter shooter doesn’t concern itself with the longevity of its item economy and daily quests then you can sign me up for Borderlands 4 right now. Being untethered from persistent servers and able to trade loot at will is a refreshing change of pace, but that’s hardly the only reason why this such an amazing co-op FPS. The sheer magnitude and diversity of its arsenal of fun and surprising weaponry is unmatched, and the striking amount of loving detail and variety packed into its energetic and replayable 30-hour campaign is what...

The Borderlands formula might be a bit dated with its raunchy jokes and cheesy dialogue, but that doesn’t change that it is a formula that keeps reeling players back in again and again. Despite the fact that I’ve already logged over 40 hours in the game, I still can't help but feel the want to dive back in with a new character just to experience it all again. But beating the campaign doesn’t bring the story to an end. There’s still plenty of great content to devour after that final boss fight, including True Vault Hunter mode, and plenty of...
