When Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga first debuted in 2016, it quickly became a global phenomenon, resulting in twenty-three collected volumes, an anime adaptation in 2019, and even a couple of video game entries, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles, in 2022 and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board! in 2024. After only recently enjoying the original, I played Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 and it's great stuff indeed.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is largely more of the same, but that isn't much of a issue when the first game was already so enjoyable. Story mode here picks up where the last left off and covers three new dramatic arcs, and the gameplay has been refreshed a little with new elements such as Gear. It's the whopping number of characters now available in Versus mode that's the real draw, though.

A must-play for Demon Slayer and shonen anime fans, though newcomers will also find plenty to enjoy despite minor flaws.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles 2, despite not being perfect, offers an excellent narrative and gameplay experience. It features several story and gameplay elements that Demon Slayer fans will especially appreciate.

Though not without its faults, Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a visually stunning and faithful follow-up that builds on the original with more characters, polished storytelling, and just enough style to keep Demon Slayer fans hooked.

Anime-themed arena brawlers have generally become a bad joke in the console space, largely due to their lazy adaptation of the source material and overall low quality.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a good continuation adaptation of the anime. While it doesn’t do much to set itself apart from the first game, the almost quality-of-life changes make it feel like a justified experience.

I have to admit, I’ve got mixed feelings when it comes to the Demon Slayer franchise. I’ve never really enjoyed Shonen battle series, save for the ones I grew up with, like Naruto and Bleach. I appreciate that Demon Slayer has become a similar entry-point for countless fledgling anime fans across the world, but as someone with no real passion for the series, seeing some of my favourite animation and game studios working in the mines pumping out content for it has me feeling jaded.
