Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition reaffirms the series’ status as the current king of the action genre. It may not fix some of the blemishes inherent to the game’s campaign, but the new characters and styles are fantastic, and will have players creating combo videos for years to come. With respect to DmC and everything it accomplished, this is the Devil May Cry I want to see in the future, Capcom.
While Devil May Cry 3 is starting to show its age, it still holds its title as one of the best character action games ever made. The new additions add a refreshing twist on this classic game, while still retaining its difficulty and depth. And who knows, after so many re-releases and playthroughs, maybe people will notice how meaningful and well told the story is.
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition pulls out all the stops to give players enough reason to come back. The loading is insanely fast, the ray-tracing is absolutely delicious and the frame rates are buttery smooth. If you've previously struggled to get into Devil May Cry, this won't necessarily appeal to you any more than previous games have. But if you're looking for a killer app to show off either your precious new hardware or television, then you should look no further.

One of the best remasters of recent memory, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition certainly does not disappoint. Access Games has gone far beyond the call of duty by not only delivering updated visuals while maintaining the game’s fluidity, but by also adding a wealth of content that breathes new life into the title. True, the game itself is slightly flawed with its tiresome backtracking during its second half, but the quality of the gameplay on offer does more than compensate for this shortcoming. This is an essential purchase for fans of old school Devil May Cry, but those new to the series should...
Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition is the best way to experience an already great game. With new characters, additional difficulty options, and fan-service galore, there's no reason not to pick up this package if you're a fan of Devil May Cry. While the remaster may not fix all of the flaws of the original game, it does manage to breathe new life into one of Capcom's most beloved series.
Completing an HD overhaul for the entirety of the Devil May Cry series, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition is a definitive package that represents decent value for money for returning players, and is pretty much essential for anyone yet to play it. Grab it with your Devil Bringer arm. It's brill.
Beyond the nice upgraded graphics and framerate, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition puts all of its energy into adding three great new characters and fighting styles to Capcom’s over-the-top action game. Trish, Lady, and Vergil are the best reasons to pick up this special edition, and they’re playable in every mode. It’s a bit disappointing that Capcom didn’t take this opportunity to delete the bad points while adding in new good stuff, which means that the backtracking and annoying puzzles that pushed some people away in 2008 will do so again in this edition.
If you already love Devil May Cry 4, then this brand new special edition is everything you could hope for. It looks great, runs fast and is loaded with playable characters. On the other hand, new players may not be able to overlook some of the game's outdated designs, including fixed camera perspectives and tons of backtracking.
Not exactly the world’s most requested remake, but although Devil May Cry 4 is no classic it’s still an enjoyable and cleverly constructed action game.
