Disney Illusion Island looks great, but being devoid of combat, the gameplay of this Metroidvania eventually comes to feel a bit stale and repetitive. Still, Disney fans will certainly get some enjoyment out of it, especially if they play it in local co-op with freinds or family members.

Disney Illusion Island isn’t a particularly difficult or unusual video game, but it more than makes up for that with its charm and humour.

Disney Illusion Island is a charming, enjoyable, easygoing Metroidvania platformer that should appeal to everyone regardless of how familiar you are with the genre or how skilled you are on the sticks.

They say there’s a first time for everything in life. For games, that’s especially true. Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars was my first dabble with RPGs; after I was through, I fell in love with the genre and have never looked back. With Disney Illusion Island, the hope is that the same happens with less experienced players who have never tried a platformer, let alone one in the “metroidvania” subgenre.

Whether you're looking to pick this up and play it with the littles in your life or you're looking to play it for yourself, this is a quick and enjoyable platformer with a lot to offer. It's something that's an enjoyable, laid-back play. However, if you want a challenge you may want to turn to another title.

Disney Illusion Island is a magnificent return to form for Mickey and friends. Though we wish that it was a bit more challenging, the excellent controls, relaxing vibes, whimsical world, and oodles of collectibles all come together to make for a cozy and enjoyable experience you won’t want to miss. We strongly recommend you pick up Illusion Island if you’re looking for another quality 2D platformer to add to your library, it’s full of that elusive Disney magic and is one of the best platformers to release on the Switch this year.

Disney Illusion Island is a great entry as a first Metroidvania for younger fans. While the slower paced movement might not mesh well for all gamers there's a lot to do in this expansive world filled with quick wit and hidden collectibles.

Disney Illusion Island won’t go down in history like the best Disney platformer classics have. But it’s still a fun, if not forgettable, romp starring Mickey and friends. Those who are newer to platformers or want to get someone in on the genre will be primed to enjoy this title. Also, while I don’t think the exploratory angle does the game any favors, it may appeal to collect-athon fans. Otherwise, Illusion Island is just a reliable game for a rainy day. A perfect seven if there ever was one.

Disney Illusion Island is quite possibly one of the best Disney games about Mickey and Friends made to date. The world of Monoth is such a joy to explore and is made fantastically to feel like a modern Metroidvania platformer.

Overall, the result is a largely successful endeavor. Illusion Island is an easy game to dive into, with a light sense of style that makes for an overall entertaining experience. Disney Illusion Island's tight controls mean players will quickly find a flow that allows for natural exploration. It benefits the game's overall design, which in turn is bolstered by its visuals and audio design. It's a game that wants players to explore its cartoonish settings and makes it effortlessly fun to do so...

Disney Illusion Island is a game with a beautiful art style, charming characters, and fantastic audio design. Despite this, it suffers from an identity crisis, and you can never entirely be sure who the game is meant for. With tricky controls, a lack of a unified genre, and bland levels, you may find your money well spent with other 2D platformers. However, if you're a fan of Mickey Mouse and friends, Disney Illusion Island is worth a try for the visuals and nostalgia alone.

Considering he’s the very mascot of Disney, Mickey Mouse hasn’t had all that many prevalent roles in games in recent years. Sure, there’s his odd world colliding with others in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, and most recently he’s a core villager in Disney Dreamlight Valley. But now, Mickey, along with his main friends Minnie, Donald and Goofy, are taking centre stage in Disney Illusion Island, a colourful co-operative Metroidvania platformer, looking to cash in on that Disney flash...

Disney Illusion Island puts Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy front and center in a Metroidvania adventure, and the result is mostly successful. Where most platformers dole out fun using the adrenaline-inducing triumph of challenge, Illusion Island is instead built around the joy of movement, thanks in part to its combat-less exploration, and the delight of controlling some of the most recognizable mascots in the world. It plays a bit floaty and simple, especially for seasoned fans of the genre, and I wanted my platforming prowess pushed more, but Illusion Island is still always fun.

It never fully challenged me personally and isn’t an overly long experience, but with a few friends or Disney diehards, Disney Illusion Island is a worthy adventure and one of the better licensed titles to venture out from the Magic Kingdom of late.

Disney Illusion Island is a fantastic Metroidvania for genre newcomers, but not so much for hardcore veterans.

My partner and I loved co-operatively spelunking through the chutes and narrows of Disney Illusion Island. While the map might not have been the most helpful guide at our disposal, our journey across Pavonia, Astrono, Gizmopolis, and Monoth overall was nevertheless led by a breathless sense of wonder that the game mightily inspired us both to feel. Beautiful and imaginative, freewheeling and magical, Disney Illusion Island has all the makings of a modern classic.

A cute My First Metroidvania with charming characters, wrapped up in some fairly basic and uninspired platforming levels. It's not Illusion at its best, but should entertain kids.

“Disney Illusion Island is a charming all-ages platformer that acts as a breezy introduction to the Metroidvania genre.”

Disney Illusion Island is a great all-ages platform-adventure that works hard to appeal to players of any skill level. Even those finding it too easy should be able to enjoy kicking back with the Disney cast, all of which are well animated with their personality shining through in every movement. The large number of areas can feel a bit samey after a while, and a few more enemy types would have been appreciated, but the escalating difficulty and variety of rooms and secrets makes it hard to get bored. The map tracking of collectibles makes it hard to resist going...

Illusion Island might be lacking in challenge but its satisfying platforming mechanics and Metroidvania elements make sure it's a good time.
