There’s something about Gundam Versus I really want to love. A soundtrack from across years of Gundam history, Gundam Mobile Suits both new and old, a variety of stages, big 3v3 battles with robots sliding and dashing around in an aerobatic display… Yep. Gundam sounds right up my street.
Gundam Versus is a fairly insular licensed game, but its thrills are universal. Though it drops players into the thick of Gundam’s myriad anime series without much of an introduction, the arcade-style controls and speed of matches makes it easy to pick a mobile suit (a catch-all term for the robots in the world of Gundam), fire off some lasers, and hack robots apart in style. Casual fans might be ...

The feeling of satisfaction that you get when your beam rifle finally finds its mark and your opponent spirals into a ball of flame is the best part of Gundam Versus. After three minutes of desperately tense, twitchy movement and praying that your attacks connect, watching as the camera cuts away to an exploding mobile suit is the perfect payoff.
When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.
Gundam Versus is a fun game. If you love the Gundam series you will find something about this to like I’m sure. There is a possibility of gameplay getting stale after a while because it’s a lather rinse experience of playing, get exp, then unlock something. Overall though the game modes are fun and facing skilled players is fun. This is me speaking as a fan of the shows, who would get home from sc...
Since its first iteration in 1979, Gundam has been an entertainment powerhouse. The idea of powerful mech suits being used by the government for combat and defense, the thrill of seeing massive metal warriors fight it out in cities, leveling buildings and defending the people. It has captured our imaginations for decades. So when Gundam Versus launched in North America promising the latest and gre...
Overall, Gundam Versus is great gameplay hampered by the content, or lack thereof, meant to support it. A solid roster is brought down by questionable absences, while the offline content lacks the kind of replayability that an arcade mode would have. Meanwhile the unstable online means those with poor connections can’t get the most out of the game, and the lack of teaching tools will not properly ...
I’m happy to finally have an official English release of Gundam Versus in my hands, but confused as to why it feels less feature rich than the last game. There’s the amazing framework and attention to detail that makes this such a fun game to play, but there’s just very little for you to sit down and actually put those gameplay systems to use in. Having a group of friends to duke it out with will ...
The sound in Gundam Versus is just as exceptional as the visuals. Every laser blast and mech explosion is sharp and over-the-top, perfect for the arcade-y feeling that Versus has. The voice acting for all the different characters is great as well, as their melodramatic yelling and exclamations really sell the lovingly crafted anime aesthetic, especially when paired with the Gundam opening themes t...
Gundam Versus has really cut into my fighting game time. It appeals to me for many of the same reasons that more conventional fighting games do: a laser-sharp focus, the layered and complex mechanics, the mind games and the sheer speed and intensity of the battle. That it involves giant battling robots is just the cherry on top. Much more than a licensed game functioning as a box of fan service fo...
