Hell Let Loose

While it won't appeal to every shooter fan out there, Hell Let Loose's complex interplay of FPS action and real-time tactical planning rewards communication, coordination, and genuine leadership in a way few other games even attempt.

Hell Let Loose might just be of the most immersive and anxiety-inducing WWII shooters out there, with an insanely high learning curve.

So, as someone who has only ever played fast-paced arcade-style shooters, did I enjoy Hell Let Loose? At first, no. But as I played more matches I slowly became more invested in the fact that I was in a war, not a 15-minute multiplayer game. Hell Let Loose can often feel slow-paced and tedious, but if you're a strategic thinker looking for rewarding and realistic gameplay, then this could be the game for you.

There are a few situations in life when communication and teamwork are key and it doesn’t pay to be a lone wolf. Commercial airline pilot, for instance. Or NFL quarterback. Tossing a ball downfield or landing a jet can be accomplished by one person, but Hell Let Loose reminds us that in the middle of a battle, lack of direction and communication is a guarantee of failure. While it might be technically possible to play this uber-challenging WWII shooter without a headset and oblivious to others, it sure as hell won’t be rewarding or fun. Hell Let Loose can be a nightmarishly opaque experience for beginners, but behind that rough intro is a deep and well-crafted military simulation game.

Hell Let Loose does little to overcome the downsides of its realistic take on World War 2 and strategic gameplay, but manages to reap some rewards out of it as well.

Hell Let Loose isn't the best milsim around, but it's a great place to start.

Hell Let Loose could become a real hit amongst those looking for a bit more of a grounded experience than Call of Duty or Battlefield. However, the experience will rely heavily on the community engaging with each other positively to put plans together and make the experience authentic. Hell Let Loose is a game about teamwork and without it the chaos of war will overwhelm a player.
