Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact is, at its core, a phenomenal fighting game. The fighting system is near-perfect, and easily stands beside the best triple-A modern fighters. Other than that, the game is a low-budget affair. Hunter x Hunter fans are guaranteed to be disappointed by the sparse roster and awful Story Mode. But there are more characters on the way, and because the core game is so strong, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact could become one of the best fighting games of this generation. Hopefully, future updates will provide plenty more content, and maybe eventually bring the Story Mode Hunt...

Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact knows its place in the fighting game food chain, and thrives within it. With a fun and crazy battle system, Nen Impact offers plenty of fun for fighting game fans looking for something fresh in the current market.

Hunter x Hunter: Nen X Impact’s excellent tag-fighting just about makes up for its awkward presentation and low-budget story mode.

Fans of Hunter x Hunter have been able to play a handful of games based on the manga/anime over the past few years, but one genre that hadn’t been tackled up until now was fighting. You know, the one go-to kind of game pretty much every single shonen is adapted to almost immediately. Not counting J-Stars Victory Vs. or Jump Force, there had been no Hunter x Hunter-centric fighting game, until now. Courtesy of Eighting, and published by ArcSys, let’s take a look at the brand new Hunter × ...

Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact is a fast-paced and accessible 2.5D 3v3 fighting game that fans of the franchise in particular might want to check out. Well, as long as they're happy either playing with friends locally or digging into its single-player modes. When it comes to matchmaking, it can be hard to find matches, and when you do, there can be issues that spoil the fun.

Hallelujah, praise the anime gods! Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact is a manga adaptation that’s not your average arena brawler, but instead an actual fighting game. Not only that but publisher Bushiroad has recruited Marvel vs Capcom 3 dev Eighting to transform the oft-on-hiatus shonen story into a three-on-three brawler. Brilliant!

Jul 19, 2025 Read Review

Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact had the potential to be great, but overly simplistic combat, lacklustre content, and janky balance make the game hard to recommend. Unless you’re a truly hardcore fan of Yoshihiro Togashi’s seminal work, I’d wait for a deep sale.

Aug 12, 2025 Read Review

Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact is the series' first globally released game and brings fun 3v3 gameplay with strong presentation and solid training tools. However, it's held back by questionable design choices like awkward offline modes, a lack of motion inputs, an 8-button control scheme not friendly to arcade stick/hitbox users, and no cross-play. It's completely out of step with modern fighting game standards, and while the game does have potential, it needs major updates to fully satisfy bo...

Jul 28, 2025 Read Review

HUNTER x HUNTER NEN x IMPACT struggles to find the fun. While its core gameplay concepts feel like a great framework for intense battles, the lack of balancing sucks the joy out of its 3v3 fights.

Jul 20, 2025 Read Review

Of all the anime properties that could get a fighting game adaptation, Hunter x Hunter never really seemed like the most logical choice to me. While the iconic manga & anime series is technically full of fights and has a pretty prominent tournament arc, the characters, their abilities and behaviours in that series rarely play out in a traditional hot-blooded action atmosphere. It’s a series focused a bit more on heart and mind-games than pure battles. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact doesn’t just fail to feel like a fitting extension of the original franchise because of this, but it fails to feel...
