Despite this, as mentioned right up front, I absolutely loved playing Indivisible. The combat being fairly easy just means the story has to carry the weight and the well-designed and animated cast is more than up to the job. Ajna is an incredibly fun hero, headstrong to a fault and frequently more self-confident than she's earned, but also capable of learning when necessary. The other party members range from major characters to minor support, but everyone is unique and brings their own personality to both the story and combat. Indivisible is a rare game that can rise above so many...

It’s hard to truly dislike a game that tries to meld pre-existing ideas into something new, and this is true with Indivisible. However, it’s also hard to truly enjoy a game that doesn’t fully succeed in any of its key areas, and unfortunately this also applies to Indivisible.

Salsa is weird. It’s a bunch of stuff thrown together in a jar, often with a bizarre consistency, always vibrant with primary colors and strong flavors. You’d never eat it by itself because of its chunky, goopy physicality and acidic or spicy taste, but it’s great when you use it as a topping; but not just any topping, a “dip.” You take something salty like a chip and scoop that crap up like you’re bucketing dirty water out of a ground well. Yet as weird as it all is conceptually, if there’s a plate of chips and a can of...

Indivisible offers a unique spin on Metroidvanias in a time when it's good to be one. Unfortunately, some key aspects are executed less well than its stellar presentation values deserve.

Indivisible takes the best of RPGs and fighting games and mixes them with a world full of secrets to find and a healthy dose of platforming goodness. While it doesn’t reach its full potential in some areas, it’s still a great time throughout.

It’s obvious from its opening moments that Indivisible has a lot of loved poured into it, boasting gorgeous visuals and interesting characters sure to win over your heart. It isn’t a perfect example of either of the two genres it blends together, but it does plenty with each of them to make for an exciting adventure.

Verdict: Indivisible offers one of the most satisfying combat experiences I’ve seen from an RPG in a long time. It blends standard turn-based battles with fighting mechanics. The overall plot may be generic. But the eccentric characters bring the stunning, hand-drawn world to life.

Four years on from its successful Kickstarter campaign, Lab Zero Games’ Indivisible comes to PlayStation 4 with a decent degree of anticipation. Described as an experience that combines a number of different genres into one cohesive undertaking, the final product comes together much better than you might think. Indivisible is sure to please RPG and Metroidvania fans alike, but it’s not without its faults.

Indivisible is a great game, but it could have been amazing. The lack of weapons, armor, or other collectible items to make exploration worthwhile really makes a lot of the adventure a bit dull, and the repetitive nature of its level design definitely leaves a sour taste. Many of these issues will be off-putting enough for potential players, but if you can look past its seemingly basic design mistakes, Indivisible's level of charm, passion, and character are rarely seen in the genre.

Like many other RPGs, Indivisible from Lab Zero Games and 505 Games follows a fairly standard storyline. Ajna, our protagonist, is a strong-willed and pure-hearted girl who faces a personal tragedy very early in the game. This drives her to find the people responsible and bring them to justice. Like I said, it’s pretty much your typical anime or RPG setup. Fortunately, before too long she discovers that she is not the normal girl she thought she was and this is when the game takes a turn th...

Indivisible made my fingers hurt. This is a game with two very distinct parts, each of which proved hazardous to my brittle, old digits. While exploring the world, it’s a side-scrolling platformer, like your classic Metroids and Castlevanias. But when you encounter enemies, the game becomes a fast paced, semi-turn based RPG. When the going gets tough, both of these parts can be physically demanding. But despite my anguish, I still deliberately did most of the extra content before fighting t...

Indivisible is pretty unlike any JRPG out there, in almost every way, and that’s both a good thing and bad thing. Ever since its reveal in 2015, fans have been eagerly anticipating the RPG by the Skullgirls creators, Lab Zero, and while I enjoyed the overall experience, it has a host of small annoyances that build up.

Indivisible manages to be something fresh and new, without ever getting too outside of the box. The mechanics feel familiar, as they are an exceptional blend of of metroidvania style exploration with RPG character progression. The combat harkens back to traditional RPG gameplay, but introduces new systems that really add a fun sense of strategy. Indivisible also hosts one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse rosters of playable characters I've ever seen. All of this on the back of a story that dances around and toys with what we’d expect from a fantasy RPG, and Indivisible makes for an...

Lauded as one of the few RPG”s to take inspiration from Valkyrie Profile’s intuitive battle system (Exist Archive being the only other that comes to mind), Indivisible was an RPG project that I’ve waited for years to finally play. As a notable Kickstarter success story, developer Lab Zero Games has been chipping away at Indivisible over the years, releasing new demos and teases that kept my attention. Music from the Secret of Mana composer, an opening from Studio Trigger, and a combat system designed by a guy that understands fighting games at a fundamental level (and even succeeded at creating...

True to its name, Indivisible should be taken as a whole to understand what makes it a unique roleplaying game. Whether it's watching Ajna and her friends growing close or theory crafting combos through party synergy, this is a game about the importance of cohesion. Sure, the plot is a bit predictable at the beginning, and there are some irritating difficulty spikes thanks to overly long boss HP bars, but those few lows are never enough to take away from how fantastic the story and gameplay are as a whole. Amidst all its moving parts, Indivisible finds its center, and...

Indivisible is far more than the sum of its parts. The full game lives up to the promise of the early prototype and is a fantastically original take on a mix of familiar genres. Aside from small issues with balancing combat in the later parts of the game and a frustrating end boss, there is very little here to criticise.

Premier fighting game developers usually stick to that genre for years if not decades. Even though NetherRealm in its many forms has experimented with unique minigames and brawlers in the past, it has almost exclusively created traditional fighting games along with the Tekken team. Or, in Arc System Works’ case, it’s the genre the team is generally associated with. Developer Lab Zero Games has bucked that trend by developing INDIVISIBLE, its RPG platformer follow-up to Skullgirls. Indivisible’s expanded scope gives it the freedom to tell an engaging story with a unique battle system that contains satisfying hints of its pugilistic...

To say Indivisible is a bit of a disappointment is an understatement. It’s not a bad game by any means, but it could have – and should have – given us a much more enjoyable journey than what we’ve ended up with. A bit more time fine-tuning combat and traversal would have gone a hell of a long way in making Indivisible worthwhile. As it is, its sumptuous graphics and excellent writing are let down by maddening gameplay elements – and that’s the most disappointing thing of all.
