Jagged Alliance 3 brings back the franchise's classic blend of strategy and RPG gameplay, with a distinctly millennial aesthetic and feel. All the while, the game plays like a modern game, incorporating the best elements of the past and the present to make a worthy successor that fans will love.

Fans of the Jagged Alliance series were anxiously awaiting a return to the quality found in the original games in the series and Jagged Alliance 3 managed to deliver both on PC and now on console. While the PC version would still be the preferred option here if given an option, the console port is very well done. There is no doubt the developers put a lot of love into not only the game itself but also ensuring that the console port was on par with the PC version as well. The intense style of gameplay is certainly not going...

The Jagged Alliance series still has an imposing reputation in strategy gaming circles, despite the last mainline entry launching 24 years ago and the spin-offs being generally not great. Jagged Alliance 3, thankfully, does an excellent job of modernising the series while introducing engaging new elements, crafting a genuinely thrilling mercenary management simulator in the process. The jokes are a bit hit-or-miss and the pace of play might not appeal to everybody, but for those willing to take risks and get out of their comfort zones, the potential payoffs could be huge.

We talked gameplay in our Jagged Alliance preview, but there are some things worth focusing in on. The one thing Jagged Alliance does better than any other turn-based game out there is cinematic gunfights. These aren’t the brutal, balletic sort of fights you’d see in a John Wick movie. These are the sort of engagements you’d expect to see Schwarzenegger or Stallone tangled up in. Actually, pick any of the Expendables and you are on the right track. The original game had a very arch sense of humor and its genre, and this new game bears a similar smirk.

Jagged Alliance 3 is an excellent game, merging squad-based tactics and classic computer-style roleplaying in an entertaining veneer of cheesy action movies.

I've always enjoyed the Jagged Alliance games, even the poorly received ones. Part of it with the later entries is that I was genuinely trying to find the best in them, if only because I liked the first two and because I'm such a lovely person, or it could be that I love strategy games. So, with my love of strategy games, infanticide and Jagged Alliance on the table, it was good news for me when Jagged Alliance 3 was announced, and developed by Haemimont Games - a developer that holds up well in my books, thanks to the later...
