Knockout City is a zany take on dodgeball that combines surprisingly deep gameplay with a bright, colorful aesthetic. It’s a winning combination.

We chose to take our sweet time to review Knockout City because a multiplayer title can hardly be judged on its opening day, it needs to stand the test of time. Perhaps it would be late to assign a rating when the game’s past its prime, but we’re certainly curious to see where this journey takes us. Knockout City’s gameplay loop is strong, exciting and it offers a high skill ceiling. If the developers manage to increase the variety and fix the few shortcomings it has, we’re potentially looking at one of the multiplayer hits of the next few years....

While not designing the first home AR iteration of Mario Kart, Velan Studios was quietly at work trying to find a way to turn Dodgeball into a micro-transaction driven competitive shooter. Knockout City is the team's second game release and couldn't be more different from their previous work with Nintendo. Sporting a brutal future look at 1960's American where playing dodgeball on dangerous skyrises or in front of oncoming trains is the best way to rep your street crew, Knockout City brings a new spin on the 3v3 competitive shooter scene. Does Knockout City hit its mark, or has this...

Knockout City shows how a relatively simple premise of throwing dodgeballs at one another can make for a very engaging multiplayer experience. Through its bombastic presentation and “easy-to-lean, hard-to-master” gameplay, Knockout City has really grabbed me so far. Hopefully the developers will continue to add more content down the line to maintain the momentum they have built at launch.

There are few games that have ever made me scream in anger or shout with unbridled joy as often as Knockout City and I absolutely can’t stop playing. It’s a near-perfect team multiplayer game packed with strategy, heart, and an incredibly impressive level of polish. Even if it’s a bit buggy and lacking in content at the moment, I can’t recommend it enough.

Velan Studios' fresh take on dodgeball is one of the best games this year.

Knockout City is easily one of the most pleasant surprises so far this year, managing to turn a game of dodgeball into an addictive and high-octane multiplayer brawl with a unique Zeerust twist in its aesthetics and silky smooth gameplay that anyone can get into. Hopefully it still ends up being a success after the current trial period, because it would be amazing to see just how massive and fun of a city Velan Studios can eventually make.
Read Full ReviewKnockout City is a genre-defying take on the team-based multiplayer game, where players are not just teammates, but also tools and assets for one another. And although Knockout City struggles to find an identity, the game's ability to excel in accessibility while holding a high skill-ceiling makes it easy to pick up and even easier to keep playing.

Knockout City has surprisingly fun and deep gameplay mechanics wrapped in a truly obnoxious style and attitude.

Whether you’re a fan of multiplayer games or not, it’s hard to not recommend Knockout City. Velan has developed an exciting and refreshing take on an often overlooked sport, with varied and fun game modes and tight controls that lead to matches you will remember long after finishing. Right now Knockout City is great and I am excited to see where it will go in the future.

Knockout City is, indeed, a knockout. It’s absolutely a blast, and despite some small issues, it’s an entirely creative and sharp concept and execution. I only hope the fun lasts after the initial buzz and free play period dies down.

Knockout City is a rollicking good time, restructuring dodgeball into a competitive team sport that anyone can enjoy. Appropriate for all audiences, there is plenty of fun here for casuals and the hardcore crowd alike. Knockout City leaves plenty of room for the game to grow and expand, making it a solid platform for success as a living game. Bright, cheery, inclusive fun.

Stepping onto the court for a dodgeball match used to either fill you with excitement or dread depending on where you stood in the gym-class pecking order. The same could be said of multiplayer shooters, as poorly matchmade games deliver feast or famine results based on your level of skill. Knockout City masterfully combines the best from both dodgeball and multiplayer shooters to create an experience that is frantic, fun, and welcoming to players of all skill levels.

Clever and unique dodgeball battles make this an easy pick, especially during the free trial.

Knockout City has surprised me. It has all the ingredients of a successful multiplayer game: an enjoyable core gameplay mechanic, a high skill ceiling, and the promise of continuous and meaningful support. It’s the type of game I could easily see becoming a popular esport. If you’re after a new competitive online game to play that’s fun and rewards teamwork, be sure to give it a try. If you’re an EA Play or Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you don’t even need to pay anything for it. Velan Studios has taken the simple concept of dodgeball and turned into one of...

Knockout City is an absolute blast, even if it doesn't have many reasons to return after players have had their fill.

On the right map with the right team, you’ll encounter some fantastic PVP moments. Though tonally it’s more miss than hit, Knockout City is at least worth trying out; but without much variety of content as of review, I'd wait until the game reaches its potential.

I was thoroughly impressed with Knockout City. Velan Studios has created a dodgeball game that has solid mechanics and is really easy to pick up. The skill ceiling is also incredibly high, making room for some really competitive gameplay. With a plan to heavily support and add on to the game over time, Knockout City is a welcomed addition to the sports game pantheon.

I look forward to seeing what the future holds for the game, assuming that Velan Studios continue to support the game as intended, Knockout City has the potential to be the next big gaming obsession.
