Poland-based studio Reikon Games has only been around since 2014, but in its decade of development, it has made a name for itself creating stylish, action-forward cyberpunk games. Its debut, 2017’s Ruiner, was itself a great isometric shooter, but in hindsight, it was a look toward the studio’s future and its second game: Metal Eden. Like Ruiner, Metal Eden is a futuristic neon-lit shooter set in a cyberpunk dystopia, but this time, from a first-person perspective. It blends excellent fir...

It’s undeniable that 2016’s Doom was one of the most influential games of the last decade, not only due to its fantastic gameplay, but also how it basically revived a subsection of first-person shooters focused specifically on fast-paced combat, fluid movement, and a lesser emphasis on precise aiming and positioning. People like to call them “boomer shooters”, but I still refuse to adhere to this dumb terminology, even when the developers themselves decide to call their game a part of...

Altogether, Metal Eden should be given a try, there's a demo on the PlayStation Store that can help you decide whether you dig its energy. However, despite its frenetic pace and solid gunplay, there's a sense the true potential of Metal Eden is unfinished. If you want a good and brief FPS, you can do far worse than Metal Eden, but you'll be left with the lingering impression you've seen all it has to offer too quick, and that the game's potential has only come out of the FPS oven half-baked.

Shooter Heaven IS a place on Earth.

It's not particularly big or clever, but Metal Eden is a beautiful, bombastic blaster that entertains while it lasts.

Metal Eden piqued my interest back in April, a high-speed, sci-fi FPS that looked to combine the likes of Doom with the traversal of Titanfall. It also marks quite the departure from Reikon Games previous’ title, the top- down, twin-stick shooter Ruiner.

Metal Eden is a fast-paced boomer-shooter FPS by Reikon Games, the developer of Ruiner. The game made a strong impression when I covered the preview earlier this year. Now that I’ve played through the entirety of Metal Eden, I can confirm that it is an exhilarating, if sort of short and disorienting, blast, and should be on any shooter fan’s radar.

METAL EDEN is a satisfyingly fast paced slaughter as you glide through the air and tear out the hearts of your enemies. With the varied weaponry at the Hyper Unit’s disposal, you’ll certainly have a blast rescuing the citizens of Moebius from the cryptic engineers, even if the conclusion comes quickly.

Metal Eden takes all the style and substance of Ruiner and brings to the table a fun and challenging first-person shooter.

Metal Eden's fast-paced gameplay loop and harrowing sci-fi setting serve as a solid backdrop for arena combat, but be prepared for a whole lot of talking.

Metal Eden is free of mission creep, focusing on refined movement, breakneck speed and punchy combat. It does those things well, embedded in an interesting fiction and shiny cyberpunk environments. A few objectives and systems aren’t always clear, and the game’s linear design and rigid mission structure could use some breathing room, as it starts to feel a bit repetitive.  All in all, Metal Eden is a fun, fast and furious sci-fi shooter and will definitely appeal to fans of the genre.

A ruthlessly hard parkour shooter, with impressive visuals, frantic firefights, and a truly punishing difficultly level.

Reikon Games built a game where each of its components is good enough, but the end result is brilliant. From a game design and artistic perspective, it's the poster child of why less can be more even when executing a fairly ambitious project. Metal Eden brings aggressive movement and intense combat back to its glory days, and it manages to do so while delivering important social commentary. It's fun, it looks good, and the theme matters now more than ever.

Metal Eden feels like a fantastic rollercoaster, only bogged down by the long line. In this case, that long line is an abundance of story cutscenes and dialogue that only ever exceeded in annoying me. But when you do finally get back into action, that fast-paced platforming and shooting shine alongside the best, although having even one additional game mode beyond the campaign could make Metal Eden a must play.

Metal Eden hits some spectacular highs, but a lackluster story and a dearth of content prevent it from achieving true transcendence.

Part Ghostrunner, part DOOM, and part Metroid, Metal Eden is a fast-paced first-person shooter that is sure to get your adrenaline pumping with its core-ripping action.

Excellent shooting, fluid parkour, and plenty of variety electrify this brief sci-fi adventure. The visuals are superb, but it’s undermined by rocky performance and awkward dialogue throughout.

Still, Metal Eden is worth recommending to those who love challenging, fast-paced, sci-fi action similar to games like Doom — that is, if the price tag matches its length. Otherwise, this might be one of those "wait-for-sale" games, but it's nonetheless one that is worth a play once it becomes worth the money.
