Have you seen the trailer for Past Cure? It pulls you in with its antics and promises a game that does the Thriller genre justice. But the question remains: does this indie title from Phantom 8 Studios have what it takes to not only grab hold of it’s generated interest and capitalize on it or does it simply crack under the pressure? You may be disappointed with the answer.

Past Cure never does anything special. Every time it tries to do something interesting, it immediately forgets about it and does something else. Don’t get me wrong: it’s not a bad thing to include a number of genres within one game. In fact, it can help keep it fresh if they serve as a breather from a strong central idea. The problem is that Past Cure has no strong central idea to take a break from or return to. Whether it’s the initially compelling yet convoluted supernatural story or the interesting gimmicks that never leave the tech demo phase, it’s a disorganized bundle of ideas that are n...
You’ll be left out with a “meh” after finishing the game. What game did we just play?
Past Cure starts off as a promising and ambitious shooter/thriller combo whose ideas are brought undone by inexperience.
Past Cure is a hodgepodge of stealth, action, and drama that reaches for the stars and falls somewhere far below.
So awful yet so boring that one can neither get too mad nor fall asleep, Past Cure is simply a Frankenstein of poorly implemented, cliched ideas and story beats.
I’ve read scarier issues of the Beano in this clunky, buggy mess of a wanna be Deadly Premonition.
We were promised a unique, "award"-winning storytelling experience. Instead, we received a convoluted mess that isn't sure what game it wants to be.
I really wish I had more good things to say about Past Cure. When I first got the press information for the review I was legitimately excited! A psychological thriller with stealth seemed right up my alley, which made it all the more disappointing that it wound up primarily a mediocre cover-based shooter. But hey, my achievement progress for the game is at 69%, and it’s going to stay that way. Nice.
Past Cure wants to be something great, and that ambition is the only thing it has on its side. This is a game that is flawed to its core. The mangled story and shoddy design prevent any single aspect from ever sticking out as something special. Don’t even risk taking a bargain bin flier on this one. You’ll only end up frustrating yourself.
The voice acting in Past Cure is flat and poor. No matter the situation, every character sounds as though they’re filing their taxes, even in a firefight. The wooden writing is made worse by the sheer lack of emotion present in every character’s voicework, which makes the story even harder to take seriously. The music is forgettable but sufficient, coming off as a fairly standard background score.
