Schrödinger's Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark has plenty to offer. For the platforming fan, it offers traditional 2D side-scrolling levels with enemies to defeat and hard to reach areas to get to. For the puzzle fans it offers endless logic problems to solve, all served up in a great looking, funny package – with the art style and comedy reminiscent of something you might see on Cartoon Network. It can be frustrating though – the control system isn’t the best, and there’s perhaps too many quark combinations that it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming to remember what does what. Over...
Schrodinger's Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark seems like the perfect game for your kid to play. It's a cute puzzle-platformer that can spark a scientific interest. Your kid could probably also look past the fact that it's also a puzzle-platformer ripe with tacky one-liners, uninspired level design, and repetitive game play, all of which combine to ensure that it's far from phystastic.
None of those waste as much time as the procedurally generated levels, which are easily the biggest flaw in Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark. They take up about half of the play time, present very little worthwhile gameplay, and feel like a drudge by the end. If it cut all the fat and featured only the smart puzzle-platforming found in the hand-designed levels, Raiders of the Lost Quark would be a leaner, more engaging, and ultimately much better game.
Despite having quite a few moments of frustration, Schrödinger's Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark features enough high points to make it a very enjoyable experience. The quark mechanic that is heavily featured is innovative, unique and one of the coolest systems found in any platform game to date. If you are willing to overlook some repetitive backtracking, then you'll be rewarded with a hilarious puzzle platformer that manages to be a memorable experience.
Questions of science, science and progress.
Brandishing a rather fetching title, Schrödinger's Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark (Schrödinger's, henceforth) introduces itself as somewhat of a novel addition to the 2D platforming realm, boasting eccentric stylised graphics and an intriguingly educational premise. Once you dig deeper than these cosmetic oddities, however, you begin to notice elements that prove to make this pussy and his heroic jaunt somewhat difficult to stomach.
Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark is an amusing game that has just the right amount of challenge to keep it from being frustrating. I found the puzzles quite easy to work out which helped keep things moving forward, with the game itself taking around seven hours to complete. The minor bugs and a couple of questionable design decisions keep Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark from being a great game, but it is a good game nonetheless.
