James Sunderland really loved his wife. He loved her so much that it smothered him when she died. Grief, doubt, and a calling to visit SILENT HILL consumed him. Finally arriving on Xbox, 2024’s excellent remake of the PS2 classic by Bloober Team is here and in the best shape I’ve seen yet. Running at a near-flawless, damned good-looking 60fps in performance mode, this is the best version of the game on consoles. So pack your car, put on your green jacket, and take a trip to everyone’s f...

Silent Hill 2 is a great remake that captures the essence of the original game, expanding it in all the right ways without ruining the spirit of the original. While this is easily the best game Bloober has ever made, and perhaps even their scariest, simplistic combat is the only thing that keeps this horror epic from reaching its true potential. Regardless, this Silent Hill 2 remake is everything you could hope for and more, and hopefully, a sign of great things to come for the series. It’s a clever and inventive expansion of the original that you wouldn’t know you needed……until now.

Silent Hill 2 brings a classic horror game back in an impressive way. Despite over 20 years of time passing, the story still feels poignant and unique in video games. As someone who never played the original, but has heard people sing its praises, Silent Hill 2 delivers on those, even if its combat doesn’t reach the heights of other games in the genre. If you enjoy the uneasy, and in some cases deeply cutting, feeling of psychological horror, Silent Hill 2 is a must play.

A loving remake of a true horror great, Silent Hill 2 is creepy, a little too bloated and confusing, but hot dang does it feel good to shotgun monsters that look too X-rated for the “Terrifier” movies. But It’s a shame the PC version disappoints.

Bloober Team has achieved what some thought was impossible: it has taken the horror classic Silent Hill 2 and made it even better. This is a phenomenal remake that remains faithful to the original while adding new content and features that elevate the overall experience. It's a must-play for horror fans; a truly terrifying journey with an unforgettable story and plenty of replayability.

A good-looking and unflinchingly loyal remake of the beloved 2001 horror game, yet one that plays everything safe.

Sometimes, a horror game just needs to evoke a psychological experience; it's not necessary to bring about favorable feelings. Silent Hill 2 Remake created this exact impact on me, and I won't erase it from my thoughts, probably never.

When a title gets a grand number, it’s a video-game worth spending your whole life in.

Silent Hill always has been and forever will be considered one of the greatest horror franchises ever made, but ask anyone under the age of 20 nowadays what game Pyramid Head is from and they’re perhaps more likely to name Dead by Daylight than the series’ legendary second entry. A few dire side games (PS3’s Downpour and the PS Vita title Book of Memories) along with Konami’s decision to step away from the video game industry have seen the IP fall into obscurity, only really mentioned when discussing its PS2 heyday. There’s no way to play any of the past instalments on PS5 or PS4, and due to how dreadful the HD Collection on PS3 was, the definitive console versions remain the originals.

Bloober Team undertook one of the most difficult tasks a developer can face. Remaking a legendary game is a difficult task and, unfortunately, playing Silent Hill 2 shows how much.

After hours spent hiding from twisted nurses, I’m finally ready to escape Silent Hill 2’s Brookhaven Hospital. I frantically search for a front door key in the lobby, but I find one final doctor’s note first. The journal entry ruminates on an illness that’s taken over the small town, one that’s left its victims lost beyond the borders of reality. The medical world is on the hunt for a cure, but this doctor questions if it’s really a sickness at all. Sure, their patients are lost in a world within their head, but they seem at peace there — happy, even.

With excellent performances, improved mechanics, and more than just a fresh coat of paint, Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 is one of the studio’s best projects to date. A sinister and compelling return to Silent Hill that you won’t forget in a hurry.
